Hi,
Have other horses lost their winter coats now? Do you mean that yours seems to be holding onto his longer than everyone elses? If so, how old is your horse? Horses with Cushings don't properly shed their coats. Could this be a possibility?
If not, I don't know any other way to get the coat out, other than keeping them warm, and constant rubber currying.

hello
we have four 2yr olds, two 3yr olds in stable all tbs aswell the 2 older ones coats have turned though they really didnt get long haired coats this winter plus 2 out of the 4 2yr olds coats have turned as well mainly on there own and due to abit of brushing the two that are still wooly are colts, they get brushed morn/night aswell and are doubled rugged when outside in the day then they change rugs in the afternoon when brought in which are stormcheeta 300gm fill doonas with neck covers attached on in stable aswell as a light canvas sheet cover over top at night so they are kept pretty warm thought that would help loose the hair

Hi,
It sounds like they are plenty warm enough. And, I don't think the Cushings is an issue with such young horses. Cushings is normally related to much older horses.
Maybe its just a baby thing:confused: . I did notice that my 3 yr old has had a much shorter, finer coat this summer, compared to last summer. Maybe its just natures way of keeping them warm while they are growing fast.
