View Full Version : Really Chuffed

I just wanted to share how chuffed I am with Captain and myself at the moment. I think my nerves are settling in the field as I dont feel too jumpy around him. :) I have properly solo hacked him out today all on my own. :D No 9 yr old daughter on bike leading. :o We walked out onto the front where the road is that horrible slippy surface. We pass the gorgeous chestnut gelding that has a habit of running up to us from nowhere. Then through the scary trees that over hang the single road, with birds attacking us from both sides. Then onto the 40mph road from hell. Some people really do need to read the caution hi viz zests that riders wear. After all I am going to punch them right on the nose if they ever hurt Captain or I. Then cautiosly round the country lanes for another 6 miles. Scary monsters everywhere tractor, combines, killer pheasants, flags and plastic bags. Not a flinch, not a spot of sillyness. Just one moment where he insisted on sticking his bottom out and walking past the scary white fence posts.
I got back to the yard and the YO was panicking because she hasnt got a single rider who actually rides their horse on the yard yet. Oh yes we ride and we intend to do plenty of it was my proud answer. :D

Oooooooh get you, you and Jen should start the 'we love hacking' club.
Good girl and pleased you have settled a little.
Poor YO, what will he do with a livery who actually rides her horse:eek:

That's fantastic, NN - well done! It's such a wonderful feeling when you get up the courage to actually do something and it goes well!

Good idea, maybe eventually it could be the 'we love hacking alone' club, you never know ;).
Sounds good NN, you should be proud you ride your horse over the others...i cant think of anyone who doesnt actually ride their horses at our yard, although at the moment i think i ride mine more than anyone else :D.
Youll be galloping over cornfields into the sunset soon...:p

I have found THE cornfield to do it in. I plan on having a go tomorrow. :D I wont be getting the camera out to take pictures though. The picture would be all blurry. :p

Nic, you STAR!!! and Captain Sensible (showing my age ;) ).
When Enya was trying out a horse today they had a speeding motorist coming towards them in a 40 zone who the lead horse's rider had to wave at to slow down. He hadn't seen them although they both had hi viz on, he braked hard and swerved a bit - twit
I can't wait to get back in the saddle and be brave like you :D

Poor Enya. But the horse seemed ok about it. Couldnt you just pop a letter of horse poo in their letterbox. :p
As for being brave. I am not. I concentrate on breathing deep in the scary spots and when that doesnt work I remember to sing. Todays record of choice was "Get into the Grove, Captain you've got to prove your love for me". :p I am upsetting the neighbours already.

Sounds like you are having loads of fun together! What on earth are the other liveries doing? Maybe you could insipre them a bit and get them all hacking out with you?

One livery drives his cob. My daughter will hopefully be riding this cob next week in her lesson.
Another livery just likes to walk, trot and chat but needs a new set of shoes on.
Another livery just turns up and grooms hers once a day. I spoke to this livery person today. She is a little reluctant to ride him at the moment as he is a little lively. Lack of exercise. So she has decided to do groundwork with him. I said I would help her on Mon if she wanted just to ride a little in the field. Hopefully she will be a hacking partner. Captain will be a good calmer for her boy.
It actually gave me a buzz today to discover that not many mature riders like to go out for a gallop and pop a jump. I love a little gallop and small jump. It didnt make me sound so novicey if you know what I mean

'Oh my goodness that Nic one is just mental!'....... they said over coffee in the tack room!
No novicey nic any more - yeah!
Well done girl - so delighted to hear that and what a great boy Mr. Underpants is. 40mph road on your own - nightmare! Be careful mate!
Enjoy today when you do it again - it is going to be gorgeous!

Glad you're having such a great time, Nic! The weather- down here anyway- is so 'storybook' gorgeous that it's perfect for riding, eh?

I found a river bank. That is a very long stretch and owned by the council. The horses of the yard have galloped along it for years. The words of choice today were:
Go on GO ON WAAAAHOOOOOO:D

LOL :p
Nope sadly not long enough to be a chorus. He had just trotted many times during the 3 miles home. My muscles are killing me. I am hoping to sweat our excess weight off that we have both gained over the Summer. :p

Well done NN:D !
Funny how some yards have fields of really nice horses that have all they need in the world and then some more, very loving owners, but they never ride them! Bit of a pain when you want a hacking partner!

thats excellent about your solo hack - well done. We have way too many boy racers around where we are (plus it's a 100km road at the end of the drive) forr me to hack on the road. Heard some scary stories about drivers (mainly male - sorry male readers) being ignorant. :o
Gosh what will the others be like come winter with their riding - or lack of it...
Well done NN

I have to hack on 50 mph roads to get Captain home to our garden. I wear a hi viz vest that says "Caution Young Horse". Most people are good enough to slow down and go wide.:) For those that dont I punch my hand in the air and wave them to slow down. Then I flash them the most evil look as they go past.

Well done you, I think a change of name is definately on the cards now:D How about "Up for it":D :D :D :D (could be misconstrued though):p
When are you coming to see the foal? If we ask Holiday nicely she might lend you a pony and we can hack out together (but no galloping cos I'm scared;) )
