I was just wondering if anyone has ever known a horse with this breeding. As was thinking the other day how much I love friesians and arabs and how brilliant they would be crossed. If anyone has any photos or comments about the cross that would be excellent. :D

Arab x friesians are known as Arabo-friesians and they are becoming quite popular as driving horses as they have slightly more stamina than a friesian. I think there is a breed society, but they only accept certain blood lines as if you just cross any arab with any friesian it is a bit hit and miss with what you get, they are only using black arabs to cross though so they keep the friesian colour. Type in Arabo friesian to google and it should come up. I think there arer a few breeders in the states as well.

There is a new Sports Horse breed from Holland called Arabo Friesians. It has taken 30 years of maticulous knowledge and breeding to get the correct balance of Arab and Friesian to get the best of both types. 9-18% is a good ratio of Arab blood to the Friesian. The Stallions tend to be around 37%.
The temperament is outstanding and they move very correctly, working truly from behind which the pure Friesian struggles with. We have imported 5 youngsters this year to bring on and sell. As the breed is only recently 'released' anyone with an older horse won't part with it! They are ideal for dressage and driving and general use. Once you meet them you are hooked, we are! We are developing a website for them which should be up early August. If you want to contact us for further info then go on to our other web www.chariots.org.uk

Hello Amanda!! You won't recognise me from this forum....but it's Joni from Sussex (who you got the peacock/spotty chickens from!!).
Hope you are well.
Anyway, was just going to echo your post about the arabo's, who are not a straight friesian x arab. Alot of work has been put into developing these horses. They are very nice horses with the temperament and looks of the friesian, but much more stamina and endurance from the influence of arabian blood. Bred as a sport horse. I think for the time being though, I'm going to stick with importing my Friesians. The Arabo's are still quite pricey due to the rarity!

I don't think he is a good example of the arabo to be honest, but thats only my opinion.

I have a 50:50 Friesan Arab mare bred by Mr Kiestra, but she isn't a Arabofriesan cause they are only 20% (ish) arab. As you can prob see from the photos she didn't quite inherit much dressage talent, but she's making a nice little event pony or showjumper.

She is lovely! I am a fan of this cross and when I become rich (one day!) and have an arab mare to breed, it is one of the crosses that I would love to breed!

This is the famous friesian x arab stallion who caused quite a stir within the friesian world as (THE WHITE FRIESIAN)...3/4 friesian 1/4 Arabian.....I want one.

Looking at the conformation of the Arabo-Friesian in the Youtube link, I thought that it combined the two well, the arched neck remained, the head was finer, but you could see that the hindquarters showed much more of the flattened Arab croup. I liked the result in this case.
Cheers, Midori
