hi all,
Last week i ride this horse that i've never ridden in my lesson before, and boy...i had such a hard time. The problem probably stemmed from me, but i just want you guys suggestion. So of course our group lesson starts from warming up walking around the ring, without a slight increase in pressure or anything, Handy decided that he wants to trot instead. I managed to squeeze my rein a little, sit taller and say "whoa" to try to slow him down, it worked a little, but it only last for a minute, the next thing you know, he's trotting again. and then we were trying to do this exercise to make their trot more organize by either doing "sit sit post" instead of the regular posting trot, and another exercise by half halting and ask for a trot again, but none of these are working for me. any pointers??

The horse that I ride does the same thing. The trick is to nip it in the bud. Before he starts troting, you can detect a change in gate, can't you? Slow him down then and keep it that way. HE may be restless. Try letting him trot and canter for a while. He will appreciate being able to take a long reign. Just SLOOOWWWWWWWW him down before he trots. Does he do this before a certian point in the arena. The horse that I ride does. Try to find out where the point is and sloew him down before you even get there. After a few rides around the arenaa past that spot, he will probably listen to you.

Thank you for your response, random2. i don't think he does it at a certain spot in the arena, it's just as soon as we walked from outside into the arena, she started to trot.i used my voice, sat up straight, tried everything, the last thing i want to do is to pull hard on the reins. I havent ride him since that time, and i don't know if i would want to anytime soon.....but if i do, i'll try your suggestions, thank you
