my husband's saddle just arrived and he'd like to try it on the horse later today ... I have to go into town anyway, so I might as well pick up a cinch while I'm there ... what size cinch do you suppose, for a fairly average (wide-ish) quarter horse type ? Hmmm...impossible question I suppose - I just want to pick one up and have areasonable chance of it fitting - the saddle is an abetta endurance, and neither of us much experience with western type saddles. Saddle pads are all the same size aren't they ? I'm guessing here - can you tell ?
Thanks,
Kate

i dont know how much of a selection your tack shop has, but the nearest place here, only has a few horse sized cinches, draft cinches and a pony size. since western cinches are so adjustable youll probably be fine with a regular horse sized cinch (i dont know what the length would be). remember that if youre going to use a synthetic cinch to use leather latigos, so it has some give.
most western saddle pads are the same size... unless they get shrunk in the dryer... grr mom. there are different shapes and thicknesses for certain types of saddles. barrel pads are shaped kind of like an english pad, but not cut up so high. cutting and roping pads tend to be thicker since the saddle is moved around alot on the horse's back. i use a simple navajo pad and fold it in two. theyre easy to wash, look neat, and if the saddle fits decently you shouldnt need a whole lot of padding.
