Presumably I need to put my reins into one hand when swapping the whip over then? I just rind it difficult to turn my hand with the whip in over enough to get the whip to come over the top of my hands. It feels really unnatural. I am right in turning my inside hand so the thumb side points downwards, so the whip starts coming up in the air?

Yes. Put your reins into the hand that the whip is going to. That leaves the hand currently with the whip free of all but the whip. Then you can change your grip on the whip to however you feel it is easiest to manage to rotate it. When it is over the top of your other hand it should feel easy to put the reins back in two hands and the whip should just fall into the other hand. It does take practice though. And I really wish I had a video camera so that I could show you. Once you learn, it is dead easy. In fact I can do it now without moving my hands much at all (like those baton twirling marching groups I suspect that it looks fancy but once you get it, it becomes second nature).

hi i replied to your other message,

you dont need to put reins in one hand, you just turn your hands so that the backs of them are facing the other, and the thumbs are relatively donwward, then you grab the whip with the other hand, and you can slide your hand back up the handle.

i hope that helps.

I have always been told to put everything in your whip hand (leaving one hand totally free) And then just flick the whip over. Works well!
