Hello everyone

Today I had a brilliant lesson on Carrie, she worked really hard and didn't nap or play up at all I am so proud of her. However at the end of my lesson my instructor noticed some dry blood in her nostril. This could have been from when she was in the field or during our lesson.

I have never noticed it on her before and have been told it is nothing to worry about as it is just a small blood vessel that has burst.

Can anyone tell me what causes this and how I prevent it from happening again? What problems can it cause?

Any advice appreciated...

it could be the hard work she did that caused it, nose bleeds arent too bad. but if the blood is dark red (when running not dry) then its worrying as it could be an artery if its bright red then its probably just a small vessel. :) i think you can get patch things to stop it from bleeding when you do hard excercise

Carrie

Your horse has probably burst a small blood vessell. Its actually more common than most people think but often they do not realise because the burst is inside and has not been evident.

I run an equine supplements company and we have just developped an advanced anti-bleeder supplement. It contains two types of bio-flavanoids and these help the capillaries to expand rather than burst.

The price for 1Kg is £19.95 (+ £4.95 p+p) or 2Kg is £34.99 with free p+p.

Thanks for your advice but seeing as this is the first time it has happened I don't think I will do anything yet. Hopefully it won't be a regular occurence!

Do you know what effect this can have on the horse? She didn't work any harder than normal....

it doesnt seem to haveany adverse effect really.
Its just a small vessel bursting due to more exercise :)
