I have:-
BHS Stage 1 Video
BHS Stage 1 Course Companion (Maxine Cave)
BHS Complete Manual of Stable Management
BHS Stage 1 Riding and Stable Management (Hazel Reed)
Before I buys all or any of these books I wanted to run them you guys first.
I have also got the Pony Club Manual of Horsemanship already.
What do you think - shall I buy ALL of these or only some - which ones?
Thanks

The only one of those things I have got is the book on stable management, which is brilliant and I would recommend to everyone with horses. :)

If the BHS Complete Manual of Stable Management is by Isle Auty - it is supposed to be very good - I have looked at it several time and thought how good it was but never had the money to buy it.
I used -
Horse & Stable Management by Jeremy Houghton Brown and Veincent Powell-Smith
The Horsemaster's Notebook by Mary Rose
The Manual of Horsemanship - Pony Club to pass my Stage 1,2 and 3 and several other books.
But looking at the Isle Auty book it covers all subjects that you need for Stage 1,2 and 3.
Also the course companions are very good.
But practical experience is really helpful - being able to relate a question to an event really helps in a stressfull situation.
Good Luck:D

The only essential, can't live without book for Stage 1 is the Hazel Reed one. It is excellent, contains everything you will need, and at the correct depth for the exam. The Maxine cave book I have (the old combined 1 and2 book) confuses the sylabus between the stages and is much less reader friendly. The others are more general reference books, which are not so exam focused.
The video is useful to give you an idea of exam format and the riding standard, but not essential.
Actually, I think I have an Equistudy tape for Stage 1 somewhere, with a mock exam on it. I found it really useful (pre video release) If you would like it, pm me and I'll send it to you.
Good luck,
Rachel

I've heard good reports about the video.
Afterall - a moving picture speaks a thousand words.
