I moved from Florida to Nebraska and bought enough acreage to keep my horse here with me. She got here yesterday and now I'm terrified! She had an episode of laminitis (and diagnosed with Cushings) just before we moved. She did well on the trip and came off of the truck fine, but I'm worried about how to take care of her.

I bought a grazing muzzle and I know that some of you use them. Did it take your horses long to get used to them? I put it on her today and she was NOT happy. Just wondering if your horses do okay with them after awhile.

Thanks!!

Hi,
I would maybe just put her on a small piece of grazing to start with, and take it from there. Carefully assess her for laminitis every day.
Have you got some electric fencing? Its great because you can just move it about, and you know that your horse is always safe.
I've never used a muzzle, but I'd hate to have to. They must be so miserable for the horse. Can they eat in them at all:confused: . If not, you wouldn't be able to keep it on for long at a time.

If I was you, I'd do some research, and find out all you can about Cushings and Laminitis, so that you can keep your horse happy.
