No way of telling from a pedigree at all really.

You can usually tell from the colour he was at birth though; chestnut foals will have light, fawn coloured legs. Chestnuts destined to go grey will normally have none of that pale colour; instead the legs are dark, as they'd be on an adult horse. The colour is usually richer than on foals that stay solid.

And any grey spectacles around the eyes are a dead giveaway!

Looking at that, I'm certain he'll stay chestnut. Look at the colour of his legs - pale from the knee down. If he was going grey, they'd be the same colour as his mum's, or darker.

One of Galadriel's fillies is going grey - see if you can find (or ask her nicely to show you!) some pics of her before she actually started to moult out grey - you'll see what I mean about the legs then.

I am with chev on that. He does look like he will stay chestnut as he is quite dark. There is a recent thread on grey genes and whether they are dominant or not. Will try and find it. Mind u does it matter what colour he is he looks lovely

i read that thread, but i'm not as technicaly minded as i could be when it comes to the colour thing! And yes i have to say i'm in love with him, what ever coulour he ends up, but do you think he will go the dark chesnut colour he is on his back legs all over?
