I'd really really like a connemara, but im looking at horses in the range of 15-15.2hh. I rode a 15hh connie last night and i thought 'yes', but someone on the ground said i looked a little big .
Can you get connies up to 15.2hh?

No 15hh is the biggest you get.

No....he is registered?
I *always* thought they could be no bigger then 15hh.
The best ponies being no bigger then 14.2
Mabey i'm wrong.....but i have never seen a true connie bigger then 15hh.
Edit: seems to be a few 15.1 around but not a good type.

I think you can get the odd exceptions, i hope so anyway. Otherwise they'd have to be a cross.
Maybe connies can go up to 15.2hh, but might be the 'odd ones' and cant be registered?

Pure connemaras technically should be ponies, so not up to 15hh, but it is occuring more and more, because large pure Connies are bre with other large pure Connies, which makes the resulting ponies bigger and bigger. They wouldn't be true to type though, and wouldn't fit the breed standard.
However, there are some lovely Connemara x TB's out there, that will easily make that height. They usually retain the pony nature, but gain a little more height and become slightly finer. They generally have that famed connemara pop in them too

Yes connemara x tb is a fabulous combination - great all rounder with a particular talent for jumping.

My horse is a Connemara X (I think with some Irish hunter or sports horse as he doesn't look thoroughbred cross at all) and is 15.3. He still looks like a pony though and has all the pony attributes. Couldn't have asked for a sweeter more trusting horse, I really couldn't. So I can advocate Connies every step of the way!!!

like someone else said connies shouldn't be over 14.2hh but you can registered over 14.2hh in the over height section. Alot more connemaras in Ireland are 15hh now i have a trakener/tb dressage mare that i have put to my connemara stallion so will see the outcome in 2007 and also i have just bought a connemara cross warmblood yearling filly who is lovely. I sold a con/tb gelding a while ago and he is doing eventing now and proving very popular the crosses are becoming more and more popular as you get that extra height. www.claresconnemaras.com

Murphy is connie X TB. he's 15'3 nealry but still loks like a midget pony. I've measured so many times because im convinced hes about 15hh if that. He has a loads of pony characteristics (ie huge belly, and square connie bum), but his face is more TB and he has long legs :D
