Ben (my share horse) came up to me when I went to his field for the first time ever - and he didn't snuffle me for polos but waited politely to be given one. And then (even cuter :p ) when I put him in his stable and got read to go, he stopped eating to put his head over the door to say goodbye - also first ever! Okay I know he was only hoping for polos but every time previously he has been much too busy chomping to take the slightest interest in my departure so I couldn't help but go awww...
And I plucked up the courage to ask the woman whose horse is in the stable opposite about hacking. Her and a friend are going on a walk trot only hack on Sunday and she said I could come! So my first hack on Ben!!! :D
BTW I know nothing about stable etiquete (sp?), was it too pushy to ask about hacking? It is just that apparently Ben can nap when on his own, so I wanted to go out with others first.

most people are quite happy to have someone else to go hacking with so i don't see the problem :)

Thanks. I guess they could have said they were going to gallop if they wanted to go on their own! :D

Awww! That is lovely Sophie!

Congratulations - it means he sees you as someone in his life (I think) - someone good for him.http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/Whatanejit/Smilies/smiliethumb.gif

No probs re the hacking.

How I played it and still do with new people is...... I asked could I ride out with someone.
See how it goes and then maybe arrange another date. Then I sometimes wait until they ask me the next time - just 'cause I like to make sure that I am not pestering them.

Awww.. isn't it lovely when they recognise you? I am sure Misty sees me coming to the field and goes.."oh no here comes trouble.." LOL.. but she always seems pleased to come out with me.. even if only so that she has someone to rub her itchy face all over! LOL...

Aww, how sweet :)

I'd think that as you're a sharer they know your horsey already and would say if they objected to hacking out. If they had any concerns they would ask if they were experienced horse owners; I'm not but I'd ask if any horse I was about to go out on the road with napped etc...

You'll have a great time; relax and enjoy and ....pictures please :)

Thanks, everyone. And yes, I will go on Sunday and leave it to them to suggest doing it again, just, as Dee says, so I know I'm not hassling them. I'm sure they are not worried about Ben (only possibly me!). He is known for being a laid back easy going cutie! Everyone on the yard keeps saying what a good horse he is for a first share. His owner says he naps a bit when hacking on his own but is as laid back as ever with other horses...
