I would say NFU are one of the best. My vets are always pleased when I tell them i'm insured with NFU.
Avoid E&L like the plague!

Yep, another vote for NFU!!! They've been great about Joe (he's got degenerative joint disease) and they're really efficient.

NFU for me, the proof of the pudding is in the paying out when claims are made! I have had an expensive couple of years with two horses and they have settled all claims very easily :)

I go for third party etc, Vets fees (I wouldn't want to have less than £5000 covered) and loss of horse. Loss of Use isn't worth it to me most of the time as it doubles (often more than doubles) the cost of your policy. If the horse could do nothing, you only get 85% of the value at most and if it can still lightly hack, you don't even get that, even though it may be insurred for another activity!

Hi Sal and Soph......Yep, going through exactly the same thing as you at the moment. I keep getting really excited and then doubting my ownership skills.....what ifs are a plenty.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'm with SEIB which I have no complaints about (but then I've never made a claim). However my premium has gone up by £75 this year  Seems a bit steep.

Thanx that helps a lot a friend has also said NFU just wanted everyones opinion Do they require a vets certificate? as I have found that some insurers require this? Only if you are insuring the horse for £5500 + (it could be £5000, but I'm pretty sure its £5500). Therefore, if the horse is less than that, you have it vetted and the vet mentions anything on the certificate, you may want to say that you haven't had it vetted because companies will sometimes exclude silly things!!

Avoid Shearwater. Ever so nice until you try to claim.

Avoid Shearwater. Ever so nice until you try to claim. Really! I'm an NFU devotee, but good to know that as one never knows what the future brings.
