Fantastic service from over there ... it arrived and was on the horse before weeks before I'd expected it. (and hence I haven't bought a shorter girth yet)
So first (and second) rides out with it yesterday on Rosie-mare. She might have lost a little weight. The 26 inch girth I have was always a little long - we were on the last hole on the billets on the trial saddle, but .. but yesterday, I couldn't get on from the ground without it slipping. Well, we felt pretty stable so off we went on a bit more of an adventure than anticipated. Half a mile out and we seemed to be surrounded by gunfire - had to sing an awful lot, and take a round-about route to try to avoid hunters ... up very very steep rocky trails... and then down very steep, rutted rocky things. Rosie was a little trooper. Easily the hardest ride she's done. Then right at the end, the trail finally flattened out to get back to the safe dirt road ... and the saddle slipped ! Rosie stopped ok, which was a good thing cos from that angle I couldn't get my foot out of the high stirrup
Ho hum ... we checked the girth and it was pretty loose by this time, and Rosie is quite a rounded flat-backed little horse. The saddle didn't move at all though forward or back like you'd think up and down those steep hills.
