I'm looking to buy a show saddle set for next year. I've found a saddle set that looks very nice by King Series, within my limited price range. Has anyone else used these saddles? Are they any good?

I used to have a Royal king saddle (which my friend now has) and it was a good saddle but not sre if that is the same brand  :o

Anything you can get very inexpensively, new, is not inexpensive; it is cheap, and it'll hurt your horse.

Every King Series saddle that I'm finding has a synthetic tree. Skip 'em. Synth Western trees have a tremendous number of design flaws and are very bad for your horse's back.

I have ridden in a King Series Neutron Roper (synthetic). I loved it because it was huge and comfy and secure, like a sofa. Also it weighed a fraction of what a similar leather saddle would weigh. It had 2 cinches but I only ever used the front one.
What I did not like about it was the tie strap (nylon "latigo"), which was so thick it was hard to tighten and tie. I prefer the thinner nylon ones, or a real leather latigo. I also did not like the stiff fenders, which made it very hard to get my right foot in the stirrup after mounting because the fenders, in the time I rode in that saddle, never did break in so that the stirrups hung at right angles to the horse's sides. A broom handle, or adapters like Abetta's Redi-Stirrup, can fix that. The stirrups wouldn't go short enough for me to feel really comfortable.
But I loved the seat, and the light weight, and the saddle looked good on the horse, more like a leather saddle than the synthetic I ended up buying, a Big Horn.

Can you show in a synthetic?

If I wanted to show, and had a very strong friend/helper to hoist the saddle onto the horse's back, I'd look for a good used leather saddle.

A lot of leather saddles have synthetic trees. It's the synthetic tree that will very much hurt your horse. You can get synthetic saddles with good wooden trees; it's important to check what kind of tree you've got whether the saddle is synthetic or leather.
