i was looking for a coloured horse and came across the paint horse. is there a more beautiful coloured horse? Wow. Where can i look at, watch, touch, ride or (some day) buy one in the UK. I've only found one uk breeder and they are a long way off from where i live and they only have babies for sale in any case.

Paints are beautiful. I would search the internet for Paint horses. I would think there would be more than one breeder in the UK, but if bloodlines are not important, look for some horse sale sites like www.equine.com and you might find something there. Good luck and Happy Trails!

OK, I'll embarrass myself now but is a paint horse a colour or a breed? If it's a colour, how is it different from Piebald/skewbald?
Sorry, had to ask!!

Paint horse is a breed. A Paint is basically built like a Quarter Horse only with color. In fact, a Quarter Horse becomes a Paint if it has socks that go past its knees. It is definitely a breed and a beautiful looking breed at that. I love Paints, I currently am showing a Paint at my riding school. They are very nice! :D

http://www.painthorses.co.uk
- don't know if this is the one you found -
and the UK Paint Horse Association
at http://www.ukpha.com
and a welsh pony stud with a paint stallion and links to ukhpa people
at
http://www.elliesstud.com/dandy.htm
hope this helps.

the difference between a paint horse and your normal pinto horse is that paint is a breed, and pinto is just the color. paint horses are usually pinto colored, but sometimes you do get those odd solid ones with just the socks. a normal pinto can be of any breed. miniature horses, tennessee walkers, saddlebreds, arabians (called pintabians), they can all be pinto. but this doesnt make them paints, because paint horses are their own breed. i hope i at least kind of cleared that up! :) just remember that paints are pintos, but pintos are NOT always paints!

I provided an article on the Paint breed at newrider.com, under specialisms and western. The address is www.newrider.com/Specialisms/Western/Breeds/western_paint.html

Is is true that if your QH has paint markings (like Crazy Horse describes) that you can't register him/her as a QH?
I know they are available in the UK, I was at a AQHA show a few years ago, and there were a couple there, they were absolutely stunning.

paints & pintos are beauties. i'm trying out a horse tomorrow who's a black & white tobiano, and she's gorgeous - in fact, her name *is* beauty lol.
btw, she also has a wonderful personality! :D

Dizzy, Crazy Horse is right. Quarter Horses cannot have white markings that come past their knees or a certain point on their face. I think they changed the white rule in the past year or two, but still, if you can clearly tell that a horse is a paint, it is not able to be registered as a Quarter Horse.

i'll be forever confused about tobianos, overos, toveros, piebalds, skewbalds, etc., etc. ... does anyone here know what this horse would be called?

She is a tobiano. I think in the UK a black/white is a piebald? Tobiano-overo-tovero have to do with color patterns and not just color.
