Yesterday, we started lessons with a new RI at our barn, saw her having lessons one day and was impressed with her method, and gentleness with her riders and horses....
Fancy, my daughter's 4yo Paint has been pulling at the bit a bit for the past month...and clearly taking my daughter off center, well yesterday, she had her 1st lesson, and WHAT A CHANGE! Fancy was collected and very behaved! I was impressed! Looked like a totally different horse!
My daughter was ecstatic she was no longer being pulled.

Though the sad part is this new RI told me that my horses did not get the correct training they should have the past 3 months with my old RI! I feel like a fool for having paid that RI tons for nothing!

They are rideable, yes.... but I'm afraid they are not as trained as I thought... but we'll fix that soon.

i'm just glad we found this lady, and she is so nice to our horses! My old RI used to smack them for every little thing, and I hated it!!! They were so scared of her they panicked everytime they see her coming close to them! Thats not really training to me.

i wouldn't have let the old RI near my horse if she did that!
hope everything gets better and better and the horses get better

Thanks,
I guess it takes awhile to really know who you're dealing with, and so much more harder when all this is new to you. i have no other basis for an RI other than my old one...so what I thought was okay, simply was not.... but I got read flags along the way from the satrt with the old one... I was never 'comfortable' that everything she did was necessarily correct.
but I'm really glad this time i found a good one!:)

Hey,that's great news- but not about the old RI, who sounds like someone to avoid! But you didn't know and now you do which is great, too.

I tend to believe horsey people who sound as if they know what they're talking about- because it's new to me too, owning a horse. But I'm learning- or trying to remember- to listen to my instincts a little more.

As time goes on, we'll learn more :)

I've listened to my instincts more than once,& it's been steering me to the right choice so far... I think I'll stick to that than taking people's word for it who may not be all that honest and genuine.
