I'm sure I should know the answer to this, but have we got a way of dealing with spam posts?

The only way we have of dealing with them is to get a mod to remove them and ban the member posting them.

I've just spent far too much time tracking down all that spam and getting rid of it; and yes, it really does make me  ; but unfortunately we have no way of preventing people from posting it in the first place. The only way to deter people is to have a subsription; nobody is going to pay to join a board just to spam it. But since members here are not keen on that, you'll all just have to keep hitting the 'report this post' button! :D

Thanks, chev and everyone for all the replies ... I've found the red button now :o
I had a feeling there was one somewhere.

As for the question of paying, well, I think we get very little spam on here so it's not really a problem (unless of course the mods are so quick off the mark they zap it before I see it).So at the moment I'm not in favour of having a subscription either, although I could change my mind later.

By the way, when there's lots of spam from one particular person, does it make it easier for mods if we report it? Or doesn't it make any difference.

We do actually get a fair bit of spam here :( and it really is a pain at times. I've had days where I've logged on and done nothing but remove spam the whole time; very frustrating when there are posts to be read!!

It does definitely help if it's reported; those like teh threads posted yesterday can be very difficult to spot because they were quite craftily titled. It's much easier when spammers make it obvious in teh title what they're up to - we tend to get to those quite quickly.

The weird thing is that it seems to go in phases; we'll get masses for a while and then nothing. Bizarre.

I'll make sure I report them whenever I see them - I'm very grateful for all your hard work, you and the other mods. That lot were crafty, weren't they - I hope she spent a lot more time thinking them up than you did removing them!

And like that one this morning, would you rather we reported each and every thread, or just the one - we don't want to spam the mods with reports! Also if someone posts that they have reported the thread, is it then best if no-one else reports it or everyone?
