I was wondering if any of you know of any good recipes for treats for horses? I always bring carrots, but thought it would be cool to make a special treat once in a while! :)

Put a few apples in the water bucket. Your horse will love trying to get them and they will last longer too.
Another one is to threde a turnip or swede to a piece of baleing twine and put a hook above the stable door and dangle it from that.
In summer ice cubes of apple juice go down extremely well. Its really funny the first time you give it! What you can do (if you dont mind the mess) is to tie a lolly stick to a piece of baling twine. Put the stick in the top of an apple juice carton dangling (and if its a sealable on clip down the top) and freeze it. After 24 hrs cut away the carton and you have a tasty lick treat to dangle from the hook that you put up for the turnip!:D
I'm sure there's loads more. Just let your imagination run wild.

Hmm ... my horses always liked bits of apple rolled in crushed peppermints (they only got them after shows when they had been good). Also, here's a recipe to try, but only in VERY SMALL quantities:
2 cup "sweetfeed"
3/4 cup molasses
2 tbl. crushed peppermints (or a tiny half-drop of peppermint oil)
1/4 apple sauce
1/2 cup rolled oats
Mix the wet ingredients and dry ingredients in seperate bowls. pour them together and mix until doughy-sticky. Shape into balls and place far apart on baking sheet. Bake for a few minutes, until they have melted into cookies and are beginning to harden. Remove and let cool. (Note: If mixture too try, add a few more tbls. of molasses.)
Horses LOVE this, but as with any other treat, feed only in small amounts.

Thanks! :) I'm going to try some of them out pretty soon! They all sound so good, I just might try them myself! :D J/k

(p.s. Do you mind if I include them in the new book I'm writing? )
