Can you not fence of a seperate little paddock with electric fencing so everyone can get to know each other over that first and when they are settled you can put them in together?

Yes thats a good idea, he is soo lovely a BFG lovely coat and colouring ( bright bay) I am really nervous and feel like a big kid, my daughter(12) is taking it all in her stride..... We have both rode him and he is very responsive and well schooled...16.3 IDxTB a little over weight at present but we will get him straight.... very loving.... THANKS AGAIN RAG DOLL:)

Congratulations! It is always a bit daunting getting your first horse. Just take things slowly and understand that everything will be new for him, but most of all... enjoy him! :)

Oooh, I do envy you getting your first horse! He sounds lovely - you will show us some pics soon, won't you?

There's a very interesting bit on here about introducing a new horse to a herd - you may have to scroll down to get to it, the link didn't work for me. I do think it's a good idea to let them get to know each other over a fence at first, though.

Good luck! You do realise you WILL NEVER want to leave the yard just in case he disappears!

What does the Yard owner/manager say, usually it is best to put the newbie into a separate paddock by his new field mates so they can sniff and squeal at each other without getting to each other first and after about a week they are usally bored of each other and so can go out all together.

Enjoy!:D
