Okay, I had such a blast long reining tonight that I want to do it at least once a week in addition to our usual riding. In particular, I really want to set up a game plan for our long reining, now that we have nailed the basics!
Here is the set of skills we now have long reining:
- we can walk/trot/canter and all with contact and with Skeeter's head lowered and relaxed
- we can do all transitions smoothly (up and down)
- we can use trot poles (and could do cavaletti I am sure)
- we can do circles ranging from 10m or less and up to 20m circles
- we can do serpentines, spirals at walk and trot etc.
- we can change pace sort of (e.g., slower slightly more collected walk vs. a more working walk etc.)
What kinds of long reining exercises from this skill set would be *most* helpful for getting Skeeter engaging more from behind and lifting his back etc.??? Anyone care to outline some key exercises that would be good for him???
