I was just wondering how the mods became mods?
Ive wondered for a while - did you ask? Were you asked? Do you all have a particular area of expertise? Or were you all just here from the very beginning?
Ive noticed some people cease to be mods, and some people become mods (did Monty become a mod recently or was she always and I just didnt notice... :o)

I have often wondered and now I have asked.

I was asked and have been a mod since early 2005. I'm here on really freakishly odd hours from the other mods (except Katie_85) are in the UK. I'm on a totally weird time warp from you guys, so am generally around when the other mods are in bed.

What was your reason for being asked? That you were on at specific times or just that you seemed a level headed person who sorted out arguments? :p

Monty's been a mod for a long time. Not sure how long but she was a mod when I joined!

I'm a mod on another forum, I'd been an active member for quite a while, and when the owner needed 5 mods, I was one of the 'chosen' as he felt he knew me from my posts, whereas some of the others he knew in real life.

I have mods on my forum, Chev being one as I know her personally, a couple others I know personally having met via another forum, and the rest are people I have got to know from their posts on another forum:D

I think it's great that Mike considered the time difference although I have to say it seems some of the UK mods never sleep! :p

To be honest, yeah, I'm on mostly when the UK mods are on! I rarely check the boards from work, as I feel guilty using the computers for personal use! Plus I'm usually on in the mornings on my days off, which is the UK evening. Or I'm on late at night like now, and it's mid morning in the UK!

Yes, but you are on a almost a whole day earlier so you can delete troublesome posts before they are even posted! :D

I've been a mod for quiet some time now. Just as long as Katie 85 and Monty.


We were asked by Mike or our names were placed forward by others.


The newer ones like Chev, Esther and Cochise had their names put forward by us.


They were chosen for their long standing to the community and with Cochise for the time hour differences due to the fact all other were UK based apart from katie who was expected to do it all on her own


Being a mod for any forum I believe must be earned and taken as a privelage

Just a bit o/t but I think you all deserve a lot of praise for retaining one of the few boards that stay on horsey subjects and don't offend (well too many people!)

I no longer subscribe to other boards where I feel worried by peoples personal issues.

This is my time off relaxation thanks to the Mods!!

to add onto eml's reply, also thanks for allowing raging good discussions, i'm sure i'm not alone in appreciating the way these discussions broaden the way we think about horses as well as our knowledge about them.

i've picked up lots of things in the oddest of threads/places :D
