hi my name is christine
I havent been on here for about a year now..I have now bought and own a Section C mare .. I am having trouble really getting her to respect me. ie she bites me , she turns her bum on me , but she doesnt kick..I have started to do clicker training with her.. she is six years old by the way..she hasnt done much since I got her as she was sooo skinny and very nervous.. not a problem anymore though. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of clicker training

I would love to know more although I have the book you can learn more from people who have had more experience in that feild can't you..

I forgot to say I have done some parrelli with her but that is going very slow too.. I also suffer from Rhumatiod Arhtritis as some who know and remember me will know... my previous pony who is now in the pie in the sky..:( was very hard to replace .. but hey this pony must have needed me or I wouldnt have found her I say..

so help me if you can please thankyou
xxchris

Hi Chris,

Have tried a brief bit of target training with my 14.2 Welsh. He has this habit of biting me and so on - unfortunatley as he is 11 - he is slightly unreceptive (a bit on the dim or reluctant side) to take to any training.

(Target is very similar to clicker except they touch a target as the action rather than complete an action, hear a click, get a treat) It is slightly more obvious training than clicker training what they have to do - although you can use the two methods together.

What sort of things are you trying to teach your mare?

yes!!!!!!!!!!! clicker training can be really and i should say that with a capital R - Really useful. i usd iton my dog, only minus the click - instead of using the click i used the word 'good' - he was trying so hard to do what i wanted it was going too loopy and trying too hard almost ahh bless -

try this site for clicker traing though - it gives you examples of everyday situations and problems where clicker training can be used - it's a very useful site:) if you need more help or more explanation pm me:) i'd love to help if i can and if i can't there wil be tonnes more replies who can so dont fret!!!

Hi Christine, I am into natural horsemanship, Monty Roberts, Parrelli, etc .I find clicker training fasinating and I am about to have a go with my 5yr old gelding. I am ordering the clicker training book and hope to start soon . The fields are too wet to school in so this will give us something to try in the evenings on the covered yard.
You may like to try Kelly Marks web site as there is alot of discussion about this at the moment
www.intelligenthorsemanship.co.uk go into discussion group and scroll down the topics.
in the mean time I will let you all konw how we get on , have fun !! Helen.
