Mine's part bred (as far as we can tell) and is most of those things :)

However a lot of people will tell you proper welshies have drama queen tendencies, and often end up being a handful for owners who were just after a sensible cob :D

Couldn't agree more. I have a welshie and she's definitely not a novice ride.

Jessie we think is welsh X fell - she certainly knows how to jump and certainly isn't a novice ride (but she knows how to behave when youngsters are on her back.

i find them very versatile with great characters.I have known many horses all different breeds and i find them very clever. My cob jumps, drives, hacks has done endurance, showing and dressage. He fits well into all catagories. He is extremely cheap to keep has bags of personality and very flashy. What more can you want.I teach people to ride on him as he is so well balanced and he is kind to children. He is the boss in the field and loves loads of attention. He does sound too good to be true but he can be naughty if he decides he wants to go home when being ridden so i develop torettes which does the trick

i've a 2 year old fully registered welsh section D. He's incredibly laid back, but his sire is known for producing foals with good temperaments. He does have a bit of a temper on him though, and if i'm 5 minutes late at turning out time all hell breaks loose  but he's a very trusting, affectionate little thing. Have only had him 2 months but he trusts me enough to follow me past spooky things on his inhand walks.

He's 4 white stockings, which i think accentuates his flashy movement.

Bl**dy hell! My lad would fall over if we attempted a turn like that, although my Sec C could do 90degrees on a pinpoint at a gallop.

Hi, I have a welsh D x. I love the welshies too.

What she failed to mention was that Willow can be a bolshy bargy little so and so at times! As with all breeds you get a wide range of personalities, but I think they tend to be a strong and stubborn but also kind hearted breed. Willow is really friendly but knows her own strength and tries to walk all over you sometimes! She's really hardy and easy to look after too! She's out 24/7 unrugged and is barefoot. She's not pure Sec D but her sire was and her dam was some kind of nativey Welsh C kind of mix. I think they're a great breed overall, but watch out for that stubborn streak!

I have a welsh called rossi. I bought him for me and my daughters. I am a complete novice and trust him so much that I have started to learn how to canter on him.

Have had a few people try to warn me about how he may not be suitable for a novice but to be honest he has been brilliant and not at all nervous when riding him in the arena.

And some people on here know how NERVOUS I was :D

I have a welsh d. Fab little horse. I didn't set out to get one, but I am so glad I did. Not a child's ride, but wonderful cheeky "speaks to you" personality. He looks great too. :D I hadn't seen your horse before angelfben. He's beautiful.:D

I have a welsh D too. He is called Tigger, and certainly lives up to his name! He loves to bounce and do mini rears when he is excited! He also has the typical Welsh D trot! He is a real sweetie and so trustworthy, I wouldn't change him for the world! He is 21 now too, and still as bouncy as ever!

I had a pure welsh D with fantastic breeding, but she was totally off in the head.

Our relationship was very unique, and unless I find a horse closely related, I doubt there are many quite like her!

Calling D's cobs is totally misleading though, there is nothing coblike about them!

They do fly though. I have a welsh X cob baby atm, and he's a stunner when he gets going. Shame he won't be ridden though!

Wow Cerys!!!! That trot!! *boing*!

Yep very *boing!* He really loves trotting like that, and I think he finds it easier, he could go round and round the arena doing his big extended trot for ages. I think the longest he did it for was about 5 mins non stop cos he was being very strong and hyper so I was told by my instructor to give him a good trot round to let of some steam and to try and tire him out a bit- it didn't work lol, he was still hyper!

I think he just likes the sound of his own hooves, a bit of a poser is my Tigger ;) :p :D lol!

I've never seen, met nor heard of a coloured Welsh pony. I'm 110% sure they wouldn't be permitted to be registered in any of the Stud Books.

He looks great Bellezebra. Unsusual to see one hogged and tail pulled, but I have to say he does look lovely. :D If I tried that with Seneca, I'd have half the yard sitting on my head and wrestling the clippers from my hands.

Thanks Caz. :D

Not a lot of Welshies can pull off the show cob look and I wouldn't advise it to most people. However Harvey was never going to go anywhere shown as a Mountain and Moorland (he's not exactly got a faceful of pony character!) so we decided to take the gamble and it definatley worked for him.

Not to mention it makes my life a lot easier too... :D:D

Lovely horsie, btw. :):)

There are coloured Welsh; but not tobiano. There are loudly marked splash and sabino ponies, which are basically overo-patterned, but they're not that common, and they were not eligible for registration with teh Stud Book (US rules now allow registration of coloured Welsh in the Amercian Welsh Pony and Cob Society stud book - but no other stud book does, and certainly not the mother stud book in teh UK  ). Now that EU rules mean that the breed society cannot refuse registration of any pony whose pure-bred parentage can be proved, so-called 'coloured' stock will be registered - but in Section X of the stud book, which means it cannot be shown in WPCS affiliated classes, is not eligible for medals or performance awards, and its progeny cannot be registered in the main stud book.

In spite of that, you'll never see tobiano Welsh - the gene does not exist in teh breed, and unless new blood was introduced, it never will.

All other colours are permissible including cream dilutes, cremellos, and roans.

I'll find you some pics of coloured Welsh... :D

Scroll down to Glenhaven Sweet Sovereign (http://www.glenhavenwelsh.com/ponies_for_sale.htm) (ignore the fact he's being ridden out at a show at two  ) - but that is a coloured Welsh pony. Pure-bred, loudly marked - same gene that gives Welshies big white legs and faces.

And more here at Promise Ponies (http://www.idylwind.com/promiseponies/The%20promise%20index%202.htm) - the coloured stallion is also Welsh. Not tobiano - loud splash. A huge number of Welsh ponies carry splash, but much less loudly expressed.

I'm not convinced; too many people will breed for the colour and lose the type. There would have to be a serious inspection and licencing system in place before I'd want to see too many loud Welshies around.
