the delivery time with amazon is 3-5 weeks! i think i'm going to cancel and order it from eq mag which i see quotes next day delivery. i've got my vid and am desperate for my book. now i just want a horse to go with it. i've found the one i want and hope it can be kept for me at the breeders (he's in spain now). i've got some spanish language tapes so that i can speak his language. just still have to do a bit more work on hubby and decide how much i'm going to tell him the horse costs. lol.

..And.. if you like EE and get yourself a Spanish horse, I'm practically next door to Dorset, so you have yourself an instructor (hola), if you want one. ;)
I adore Spanish horses, have one myself, well , she's half Spanish.

That's really sad. The page currently says..."We are currently unable to offer this title. It may be out of stock with the publisher or out of print. If you would like to purchase this title, we recommend that you occasionally check this page to see if it has become available."
Pretty bad, considering when I bought mine it was ex-stock and high in the rankings.
(Even worse if it really is out of print as suggested!!)

HI Karl,
You are right, it is indeed out of print. They are only likely to be bringing it out again in paperback in the summer, it seems and may not be doing any more hard back copies. It has bene out of print in the US for ages, and I get so many requests from the States for it. It does make me cross, as it has never had any real publicity over there and has sold more by word of mouth than anything. I can't understand the publishers, as you say, it was still very high in the rankings. They didn't even do much here to publicise it - the amazon ratings I think helped more than anything, and I got the book into Cam catalogue and EQ myself- but still only make my 40 pence a copy!

I reckon we should all lobby the publishers mercilessly until they get the message!

Thanks folks,
What I would really like is to buy back my own publishing rights and then I could put it all up on the Net and sell it that way, then riders anywhere in the world could download it and print it off, and I would have a special file/folder printed like the cover, so that it could still be bound into it like a book, which would be included in the download price. That way, anyone could have the book, anywhere, but I very much doubt that I can buy the book baack. Bit ironic that I would have to buy back my own work, which although it has been such a good seller, I have made a total of £14, 000 out of it!!- and that is over three years!!

i've cancelled my copy of EE on amazon and today ordered from EQ mag instead. they do next day delivery! (i'll get it tuesday as i ordered on a sunday). i splashed out and ordered a seatbone saver as well. can't wait til it comes.
Heather, does the same publisher have the paperback rights? On the strength of the sales you are enjoying (or rather not enjoying at 0.40p), would you not have a very strong bargaining position in terms of what you earn from your work?

Heather, a cousin of mine published a book on the internet like that - you could choose to download it (without the cover, though) or buy it in paperback, from Amazon. The publisher is called e-reads, at www.e-reads.com
I've no idea what sort of books they publish, or how they work, but it might be worth thinking about, for the next book if not this one!

Sorry to hear that Heather. I know that authoring books isn't that lucrative (unless you sell by the million!), but if nothing else it does help to get the message across.
I do find it strange that publishers take books like this out of print when they are clearly selling consistently...after all, what does it cost to run off 10,000 every now and again and stick them in a warehouse: very little I suspect.

Exactly Karl, but publishers are a strange animal, seems they cut off their nose to spite their face, as, if the book is still selling well, it seems stupid not to reprint it-
Cheers,
Heather

Sorry folks, the book really is out of print- there may be a few copies hanging round, but I am not sure where, or whether Feedmark has any even.
I have had word from the publishers last week that they are no longer doing the book in hardback but will bring it out in paperback in July, priced £12.99 -I suppose that will mean about 20p a copy royalty now!

I'm glad I bought my book when it first came out now, before I even knew who Heather was! Some of the horsy book clubs may still have it, I'm pretty sure EQ had it in their catalgue at Christmas (that's where I originally got mine from- it was their editors choice).
Actually, it's a long time since I picked it up and I got it out last night and am inspired to start practicing again. A winter of barely riding has made me rusty.

i just had a brill idea - i got mine from a book club, and they still have an offer on it - they are a horse book club, and you get something like 4 books starting at 50p each and you have to buy a book from each mag for the next 4 issues or something... then you can leave the bookclub...
you can write to them for the hardbacked version at
Readers union group of book clubs,
brunel house,
newton abbot,
devon,
tq12 2dw
or you might have seen their leaflets that fall out of most horse magazines every month - i think they must buy their books in bulk, so they probably have some in stock still, fingers crossed ;)

Not pouring cold water all over your idea Carolyn, but beware of this book club.I have personal experience of them. They're VERY hard to get rid of once you've started, even if you honour your committment. They keep sending you books, for which you have to pay for the return .I eventually did got shot of them, when my local postmistress advised me to to write accross it in big print...RETURN TO SENDER, UNSOLICITED MAIL. But it took a while.I owed them nothing, but they wouldn't give up until I did that.I'm not trying to put anyone off your book Heather, I have it,and keep going back to it and back to it, time and time again; and agree with what everyone is saying here, I'm just warning Carolyn to be prepared.

lol Monty - i'm fully aware of how they could have been - like i say i did buy books from them, via that leaflet, and generally, they were very good - they were just a bit on the expensive side - when i received my final statement for payment of my final book, i phoned them up and said i wanted to cancel my membership - the woman said 'could i just ask why???' and i said 'yes - you're too expensive' and she accepted that and closed my account there and then - i have no doubt though that like any of these mail order companies they COULD have caused prob.s for me. From my experience with them though, i would recommend them fully - just make sure when you've done your side of the bargain to cancel well before they will send you the next book ;)
