Curly fell on her side today and has a lump that shes NOT happy about me touching. its hot and i think its a bruise.
Shes had bute tonight and im going to rideaway tomorrow to get something to ease it a little.
Im debating between NAF arnica gel (A soothing gel for minor sprains and strains. Will benefit areas showing bruise like sorness.) or lincoln cool gel (A cooling gel for application to bruised and swollen legs.) and also, would a Kool pak be a good addition to my first aid box as i wished id had one for after she fell but i dont want to spend unecessary money? i wont be hacking again.

I'd apply cold packs (maybe a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel or something - cheap and effective!) and hold that on for maybe 10 mins to try and take the swelling down (although if it was a while ago, this might not have a great effect).
Personally, I wouldn't go past arnica for dealing with bruises. I've used the cream, but you can also get arnica tablets which you can hide in an apple or something.
Hope Curly's ok! Sounds sore

Arnica gel is fine on a bruise but I wouldn't use it if the skin is broken, it will split open a cut and make it bigger! Arnica tablets work just as well from the inside out. Witchazel is also good for bruises. You can get it from chemists.

Witch hazel is good for bruises - had forgotten about that one! Don't think it should be used on broken skin either though?

I use the racing clay for swollen bits on legs or backs I wish i could just remember what it is called. Ive just always called it racing clay as my dad used it on the race horses. Works for sore bits on peeps too but quite messy without a dressing!! works fab though!!!

Definatly the arnica, I normally use tablets (you can just add them to their water or feed) and also cream so you attack it from inside and out :D
A cold pack is a good thing to have, the chemical packs are pretty cheap - certainly under a fiver :D
Or cold hosing works almost as well :D

arnica is great!. Cold hosing can help sometimes too as it will bring down inflammation and swelling. If its in the hoof I would use a bran poultice too.
