Had a BAD day today - Mikey had a mild case of spasmodic (sp?) colic. Hopefully he is ok now but it was scary this morning when my friend rang me to say he kept going down :(

Anyway, just wondering how long i need to wait before lunging/riding him? I was planning on starting to bring him back into work (he's not been ridden for 5-6 weeks because of an abcess and loosing front shoe - repeatedly!) and now this! If he's ok in the morning, the vet said go back to normal with feeding etc. So would i be ok to free school/lunge tomorrow, or is it too soon?

Thanks!

I feel for you, as mine has had that several times.

The vet said to treat him as normal next day - they seem to think this occurs more often than we realise and isn't such a big deal really (when it's benign spasmodic colic, that is, NOT the more serious types). Like tummy ache after a curry...

My cob was cavorting round the field top speed as normal next day.

IMHO, if he appears normal in every way, eg grazing / eating, behaviour, alertness, maybe try some slow gentle work and see how he goes?

my horse mildly coliced last week and i gave her the next day off (mainly cos i was knackered after staying up till 3 with her!) an then we were business as usual the day after with an hour of flatwork and then a tough jumping lesson the day after. no harm :)

When my boy colicked mildly, I gave him the next day off. I know when I've been feeling ill it takes a lot out of me, so I reckon my horse might appreciate some time to just feel better before working.
