American trainer, Paul Belasik's new book, 'Dressage For the 21st Century' is an absolute must for all serious riders. It is, quite simply, a masterpiece, and will undoubtedly become a Classic of the future. Extremely comprehensive, scholarly- as one would expect from such a man- yet highly readable throughout, it is truly inspirational.

The photos of Paul on his two full TB geldings plus a superb Spanish horse, are wonderful- his seat absolutely exemplary and the horses all look totally at ease in their work. I cannot recommend this book more highly, and it has just strengthened my resolve to accompany my friend Lynda Collins on her later trip to Paul Belasik's yard for training this year- lucky devil is going twice!

Is there any other books/videos you'd recommend?

I know that Heather previously recommended Horses are made to be horses. I recently posted how much I liked the book here...

Indeed Karl, one of my very favourite books.

Also recommend 'Schooling in Hand' by Richard Hinrichs, also the video of the same title, and Dancing With Horses by Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling, and needless to say, 'Think Like Your Horse' by Michael Peace and Lesley Bayley.

It's funny because I was just about to ask about the 'schooling in hand' as it sounded very good!! Thanks for answering that untyped questions Heather!!:D :D

I was lucky enough to recieve both 'Think Like Your Horse' and 'Horses are Made to be Horses' for Christmas and I love them. I have to add that I have only been back riding for a year after a 20 year break (couldn't rise in trot during my first lesson back), so am a complete novice. However these books make so much sense, as did Heathers 'EE' which I bought after my first lesson.

I do not want to repeat the bad experiences myself and my poor little pony suffered all those years ago! After reading these books its as if the fog has cleared and I can see where we were going wrong and it breaks my heart to think all the troubles we had were so avoidable!

I am now looking forward to forging a new equine partnership sometime in the future, and I now know where to get advice that will help and not hinder.

Schooling in Hand is interesting but makes more sense to dummies like me when viewed with the video (confess, my husband bought me the book, and I bought the video!). I'd seen a review of the Belasik book. Can't resist, Lordy my bank balance since I got back into this lark.
