i had a note on the board saying that archies legs were filled yesterday morning.
when i got him in the field last night he had heat in both of his hocks, his near hind was filled and he had a little heat in his near front fetlock as well and was really lame. so i cold hosed his legs took his temp put stable bandages on and gave him some bute in his feed. this morning he wasn't lame and the heat had gone but his hind leg and hocks were still swollen.

dose anybody have any ideas on what it could be or if i have done the right thing. YO thinks he may have been cast overnight and managed to sort himself out but i dont know.

Hi,
If your horse is normally fine, I would say it sounds like he's just been "in the wars" somehow. I'm a bit surprised he has no marks on his skin though, to suggest a bang or anything:confused:. Arthritic joints can be swollen with heat in them, but I wouldn't expect it to come on that suddenly.
I think you did the right thing to cold hose him. I'd just continue to do that as often as you can, and I'd expect him to be almost back to sound again in a couple of days.
If you're still worried after that, maybe call the vet.
Good luck!

My boy has never had puffy legs, but when on box rest about 6 weeks in he suddenly did, I was mistified until I saw another livery a couple of days later, she said he had been cast earlier that (the day of puffy legs) morning but had righted himself so she didn't worry about it.
When I looked closely I could see scuffs on the wall so maybe check that?

I would continue to cold hose his legs and use the stable bandages at night for a few days, if he is still unsound by monday I would be looking to get a vet. I also used magnets which seemed to help a bit.
