Stiffness in her legs.

startin early summer this year my mare showed a little stiffness in her hind legs, it didn't appear to cause her any pain, and after a few weeks it disappeared. But around early September this year, the stiffness came back. I thought it would just dissapear, but now it's coming up to december and the stiffness has not gone away. It doesn't cause her any discomfort -that i can see- and she happily walks, trots, canters, gallops...apart from jumping, but she has always hated jumping so no surprise there :p . Anywho, i was wondering what the stiffness in her legs could be, Arthuritus maybe? It doesn't affect her in any way, it just gives her an undesirable, i have something stuck up my bum, walk. Bare in mind, she is nearing 24 years old!

Considering her age, I'd suspect that arthritis is probably the most likely cause. My mare (who is 17) started to become a bit stiff last winter. Perhaps you could invest in a joint supplement such as cortaflex? It might sort the problem out. If not and you are worried you could always get your vet out to investigate :) Cortaflex certainly helps my mare.

I recommend Cortaflex too..at your horses age I would expect there to be some arthritis there. My old boy had it in his stifle and I found Bioflow boots helped him a lot too.

Of course i'm going to get the vet out, but seeing as he can't come for a week or two , i thought i may aswell ask on here aswell :). I'll try Cortaflex, I did have her on Codlivine joint supplement, but it didn't help. Someone told me Glucosamine(sp?) may help?

Cider vinegar is apparently good for arthritis. I only bought mine yesterday though, so can't tell you if it works.

Personally I'm not spending a fortune on cortaflex. I can't afford to, especially when you go through one tub before it has any effect!
