View Full Version : Chestnut with grey bits?

If a horse is chestnut, with grey hairs flecked around his hind quarters, does this mean he will turn grey? He's 10 years old, so if he was going to go grey, wouldnt it have already happened?

i asked this a while ago :) my mares exactly the same at just 8 and i was told that she would have gone grey already.

May just go a bit roany as time goes on but will probably not come to much at all!!!

Kia looks roan at the front in the summer but is most def black just coz he has white haire on his neck in his summer coat!!!

They are not grey hairs are they? They are actually white. My guess is your horse has a fair bit of white on it like socks and a blaze or similar?

This roaning you are talking about is a sabino gene, it causes white stockings to varying degrees and white on the face, also many horses with sabino have roaning through their coat, but roan is something different again. Your horse wont turn grey.

Here is a picture of one of my horses he is sabino to the extent that you usually see it, but it can be much more extreme like in the link I have posted for you.
