View Full Version : Confession - I've bought a HM seat saver!

Hi

Yann very kindly let me borrow his HM seat saver last weekend and after a 10 minute sit on it (not even on the horse either as it was snowing, I put it on my saddle which has a tall stand and sat on that!) I dashed off to my local tack shop and bought one. (It was only £39.99 too).

I really like it. My position doesn't feel or seem (from a bystanders point of view) to be different than usual but it's soooooo comfortable and my lower leg feels more stable for some reason. I can't wait until I can get Bebe fit, it should be wonderful on 2 hour hacks.

I think I've been converted :D

no need to confess - anyone who has used a HM seat saver would not get on any saddle without one again.

I have never sat on my new saddle naked (without a seat saver I mean)

HI Bebe,

Glad you like it! Who is Yann?- I knew a Dutch instructor up in your area a while ago, and wonder if he is one and the same!

Hi Heather

It's Yann from this board, I don't think he posts in this section very much though.

I just need to get another seat saver for my hubby now. He's started riding recently but finds most saddles very uncomfortable and I'm too mean to let him borrow mine!

HI Bebe,

Pepole do get rather possessive of their Seatbone Savers, but I just wish when I lend one for people to try, they would give it back, and buy their own!

Well, after lending my seat saver to various people, sales of them must be well up! Several of my friends have now bought them including one visiting from New Zealand who took one home with her! Other friends have bought one even though they don't have a horse - just liked mine so much they wanted one for their lessons.

But I don't actually let mine out of my sight when I lend it - that way I always get it back!

:D !!! Missed this thread!

I've just started my first share and bought the seatbone saver and flexi irons as a means of making sure I survived the sudden change from riding once a week to every other day, and it has worked a treat. I've not had a bit of backache or creaky knees as a result, and I reckon if I'm more comfortable, hopefully Ben is too.
Stole the idea for this combination off ponynut:)

It's certainly helped my position too, my instructor commented how much better it was (with the seatsaver). Ben's owner can't get on with it though, fortunately it's easy enough to put on and take off.

I didn't have any problems getting mine back:)

Glad you all like it! Nice to know one has gone to NZ- have sold quite a few to Oz over the years but very few to NZ. I have been invited to go to Australia in November, with the simulator, to do the Equitana - third time of asking but have always been to busy so far, but looks like I can't get out of it this time!- my EETT student Paul and wife Alison are insisting that I go!

Well, what a shame, it looks like I'm going to just *have* to find a way to get to Equitana this time... oh the hardship! :D

I didn't need it for a week, one 10 minute sit on it and I went out and bought one. If my husband had been able to ride in it too I don't think Yann would have got his back so promptly!

I've been riding in it more often now, just for short stretches as I'm starting to fitten Bebe up again. I've noticed that my inner thigh is having to stretch out more and I can definitely feel it (not painful, just there). I never felt this without the seat saver and I'm hoping that once my muscles are suitably stretched I'll have an even deeper and more secure seat.

I've had mine for over 2 year now, and would not be without it. It stays permenantly on the saddle only coming off for cleaning tack.

Bebe and Yann, you have both sat on it when you came up and rode Charlie last summer, and am very pleased that you never noticed it was there!!!!! Just goes to show how a well worn in one moulds to the saddle and you effectively and quickly.

Charlie and Zak are being bought back into work now having had the winter off and following our move. They also had to have 2 weeks box rest, so they are very lively, yes even Charlie, so the seatbone saver will be very useful in the coming months allowing you to sit more deeply in the sadle and be more secure with those playful bucking fits and flat out romps and twists they all love to throw in.

Also, Heather, don't know if you really want to promte this aspect of the seat bone saver, but it does give you better stickability in the saddle as you don't slip on the polished leather on hacks when the horse suddenly spooks and spins allowing you to remain in control with your legs still in the right position for correction and forward urges.

I think everyone should have one who doesn't have a HM saddle.

By the way Heather, have the saddles reduced below £1,000 yet, and do they make one for a broad shouldered cob? Would love to know as the saddles were a little too exspensive last time I checked for out horses who are pleasure horses really with the odd show thrown in, just to keep them alert.

HI Alleycat,

Don't think you will have to go far if you are in Brisbane- it is being held there every other year now and Melbourne the other year!

The stickability is one of the things I like about the seatsaver - the way I see it it's only tradition that says we have to sit on polished slippery leather.
I've developed new muscles at the top of my thighs, I'd assumed it was just due to the increase in riding, but it sounds like the seatsaver again.

Caroline, I remember thinking how comfy it was then, but I had my hands full trying to keep a certain cheeky cob going:)
Glad to hear your two are ready to start work again!

I too invested in a Seat Saver after reading about them on this site and had it sent down to NZ and am now the envy of many people!!! They would sell very well down here but many people are put off by buying over the internet unfortunately. Im a very pleased and comfortable rider now thanx Heather. :)

Caroline - did you spot Heather's post about the new range of saddles? She's really pleased with them, and like the full-blown HM version they do come in Fat Cob size (you and I have the same problem!).

On the topic of saddles, will they likely ever be available on this side of the world? I have a TB who i ride in a wintec with a medium wide gullet but the saddles sound great....

Thanx Wendi

Just had one of the organisers from Equitana Pacific and Asia over to see me, she came down and stayed last night. Looks very likely that in will be coming to OZ in November, also to launch the saddles in the Antipodes!
