I'm semi looking for a horse at the moment... trying to hold off till May but there are so many ones i want the now
anyway on one of the sites there is a horse for sale who's gorgeous but he suffers from warts, he's got them on his leg, belly and neck. (parents have always said i'll end up with a 3 legged horse as i always feel sorry for them)
anyway he's 9 years old, but one of the warts have become infected and he's needing treatment. I always thought warts were growths that cropped up on faces of younger ponies. Only 2 of our youngsters have ever had warts and they disappeared on their own without any vet. attention.
Has anyone got any exeprience of - warts? :o  :p

If it's the horse on Horsemart in the £1000 and under section (I saw it too :p ), the ad seems suspicious to me... written in broken English so it wouldn't surprise me if these "warts" turn out to be sarcoids with a different name.... of course it is possible for them to just be warts but you would need to get the horse vetted... it's seems cheap for what it is if it IS that one.

haha it is! Its gorgeous i won't go for it as it does have warning bells around it! But never heard of warts on a horse like that! I suspect sarcoids 2! Plus would you not just get your vet to hurry up? ;)

Sounds like sarcoids to me. Get the Vet to have a look, don't let the people tell you its warts, get a Vetting. If it is sarcoids, don't touch with a barge pole.. unless the horse costs meat money and you are prepared for alot of expense and hassle sorting it out. If it has extensive sarcoids you might not be able to ride the horse if it gets sarcoids on the girth/saddle area.
At the end of the day you could spend 2k (radiation treatment) sorting the sarcoids (which may return) and you could end up with a horse that is unridable.
Horses are prety flimsy creatures that a lot can go wrong with. It is better to start off with a horse that is in full working order.
Whatever it is worts/sarcoids etc, you will have the vets bill to pay yourself. It is a preexisting condition so your insurance will not pay. If the wort/sarcoid situation worsens or has any complications, again, the vets bills will all be yours.

10 foot barge pole springs to mind, don't buy him, there are others without such problems.
