Following on from my last thread - please can some one help me with feeding.
I have been considering pins feed, and i am think of changing her current feed which consits of safe and sound, 16+, sugar beet(not as yet but would norm ad it at this time) with benevit, garlic and sunflower oil - to Alfa A lite, spillers high fiber cubes and may be alfabeet, along with the benevit, garlic sunflower oil etc.

so just wondering what everyone things of her current diet and her new one(maybe)

thank you

Id just probably change the sugar beet to the alfabeet. Possibly 16+ for high fibre cubes.
But i dont see why youd change the sade and sound?

hey

thanks for the reply.
opps i for got to add that i was think of changing her feed as she is starting to lose a bit of condition and she is very har to put weight on - i find finding a feed that works for her quite hard as she is laminetic. she could also do with a little more energy.
she is living out 24/7 there is grass in the field for her to eat (shes always eating when i go check on her).

thank you

The alfabeet is supposed to be safe for laminitics. And so if the safe and sound. But maybe you could look at the ingredients and see if the alfa or S&S is the best?
I personally dont feed concentrates so id give the cubes, means shes getting fibre but wont be harmed. :)

i think it is a good idea to change the feed to a higher-fibre, lower-starch and sugar diet.
it is not necessary to feed the high fibre cubes alongside the dengie alfa-lite as they are very similiar.
also, as you are feeding the benefit vit/min supplement, another hard feed would only give your horse the same vits/mins several times over.

instead, i would recommend that you feed the benevit, sunflower seed oil, (alongside ad-lib, quality forage) with the recommended amount of alfa-lite (you may want to contact the dengie nutritionists if you havn't already to determine which of their feeds would best suit your mare).
this diet would give your mare all she needs, especially lwith ots of fibre
i also think it would help your mare if she was fed a digestive aid also - such as dengie XP tripple action, or their yeast supplement (again, ask them specifically) as weight/condition loss in veterans is commonly caused by deterierating digestive efficiency.
then if your mare still continues to lose or lack condition, you can add speedibeet or other non-molassed sugarbeet (i believe the alfa-beet would be useful but make sure she isn't receiving over 3kg maximum of this plus the other dengie forage feed or she may eb overloadded with alfalfa).
good luck
:-)
