View Full Version : Jingle bells - Christmas driving

I've spent a wet afternoon making some jingle bells on velcro strips to put on the harness.
I hope we get some nice driving days to go out for a jolly with our jingle bells!
I introduced them to Erry and she didn't seem too bothered. We played the 'touch' game in clicker training then she had them jingled all over her body and legs so I reckon we are ready to go.
Are you doing anything daft for Christmas with your ponies?

Nope, but for the stables alot of people (including me) wrap tinsel around the stable frames and around bridles etc.

i put antlers on curlys bridle and a red nose dangling on the bit the flash should thread through and i had a santa hat and tinsel on me.
we got laughed at by the lads from the racing yard until the boss (my old YO) told them off and then they said it was 'cute'.... vowed never to do it again.

I use jingle bells all year round! My horses are barefoot and it helps if people can hear the cart coming.
So far we have deliverd 3 Santas to Christmasy things like Childrens parties & lights being turned on.
For Christmas the horses are getting the day off!

We are going round the village with Stephen as Santa, using Wally's pair I think the plan is! :)
Or ONE of Wally's pairs I should say!

We're doing a Christmas fun day at the yard in a week, so we're using Ellie to pull the cart up and down the field for kids to post a letter to santa, and of course there'll be tinsel and lights and stuff everywhere. That is, after I've climbed up into the roof to put it all up...

Yes, if the sight of my OH and Stephen in a Santa suit doesn't send poor Beth into appoplexy!
I must get some bells, it'd be a good laugh. I need a bit of a laugh at the moment.

Sarah, I saw those and was tempted! However I went into our local sewing shop for some velcro and they also sold bells. At only 40p each I could buy a few more and they were easy to sew on.
Good idea about the barefoot Alfies slave as we are too, and I might keep on with it as well.
Cheer up Wally, get jingling!

Did you know in the old days folk could be recognised by the tone of their bells. You could tell who was about to come careering around the corner before you saw them.

But the ones on eBay are huge!! There are four sizes and the biggest is the size of a small apple!! They are soooooo loud as well!!

The ones on e-bay look like the one's my suppliers sell. Real brass, loud and tough.
Given the chance, certain folk would squash the ones you get from sewing supplies. :D :D :D
