I have just watched another amazing episode of this programme....and I wonder....if he made me not scared of jumping, or galloping in open spaces - would it stop me falling off? :)

I think fear is a good thing. If we didnt have any fear we would put ourselves and our horses in dangerous situations. So would it be a good thing to have Paul McKenna hypnotise us to have no fear whilst riding??

I'm afraid not:D
I recently did something similar as recommended by Casey. It has made a difference to my attitude but until the technique improves I'm afraid I still keep falling off!:p

It's not the falling off that's the problem, it's the fear.
I have fallen off several times whilst jumping recently, and it hasn't bothered me, but I am petrified of hacking out in case the horse does something silly and I end up being bolted with and/or falling off - neither of my horses have ever done anything bad out hacking, and all my falls have been whilst schooling, so I don't know where it comes from
I am going to see a hypnotherapist/EFT practitioner soon who I hope will be able to help me (she says she can!) - she won't be able to glue me to the saddle and I will still fall off, but hopefully the crippling fear that stops me doing what I want to do will subside.
Neither of my boys has ever bolted, one is petrified of cows, but has stood trembling while they passed, and even had an ambulance with lights and sirens pass him the other day (with OH on board, not me, thank God!), but it still doesn't stop me thinking 'what if.....?'. It is irrational, and I'm not that bothered when I do come off!
I would love to go to Paul McKenna but I fear he would be a little expensive, so will give my local lady a go!

I think Paul mckenna helps people in some respects, but as somebody else has said, fear is a good thing and at times protects us. I'd be interested to see if he could cure my phobia of eating in public (ok, not horse related but it does stop me from joining folk in the yard cafe....!!!)

Trewsers, a hypnotist is just the sort of person who could help you with that. :)

Yeah, one of these days I'm going to get around to sorting it out! mind you, it keeps the weight off - means I don't tend to over indulge at parties, get togethers etc.....!

it'd be great if it did, i'd sign up!
it begs the question how much do our nerves protect us, and how many accidents are caused by our nerves-horses picking up on them and getting nervous themselves, riding position getting tense and stiff making it easier to come off etc
very interesting:)

do you think he could hypnotise my mare and get her to stop having a sweaty tizzy when she is on her own in the stable for more than 5 minutes?....now that WOULD be useful :D

I hate to disagree but fear is a curse! Awareness is a good thing, fear is not. It just restricts what you do.

I have been hypnotised once for somehting. It didnt cure me but it helped me come to terms with it and realise its not hte end of the world. I had a lot of pent up emotions about it and let it all out during and after the session...:o

about 16 months ago i had some hypnosis to get over my general terror about cantering & galoping on hacks - i can remember the hypnotist being very clear that i would still be aware of dangerous or worrying situations & that i wouldn't do anything that i might find dangerous after hypnosis - i found it very useful & also used the self hypnosis cd - hacking with confidence [i think you can buy it from the ride with confidence website] - my experiences were very good & i would reccomend hypnosis:) :)
