I wish we could change our username without losing all of our posts/subscribed posts, etc.
Six years ago when I signed up here it seemed like a good idea to use my real first name... but now not so much. ;) :p

I thought Mike or another Admin could change it for you? A few people seem to have changed their usernames several times for one reason or another...

I know but they probably had really important reasons! Stalkers, death threats, ets.
Me - I am just ashamed of having my useless advise recorded for all times and would prefer to give it freely but anonymously... :D

I'm sure some forums allow you to change your own username, but as NR is such a big forum then I bet quite a lot of names are already in use! Plus I'd get confused if people kept on changing their names. I am sure if you really want to change it though you can PM Mike :)

Well, it's too late now since we will all know the new name is really you! Anyway, I have never read anything that you have written that you could possibly be ashamed of.

I'm sure there are a reasonable number of Karins in the US though? :D We'll soon track who you are anyway! Anyway don't do that, I've been off here long enough to be terminally bewildered by what I have missed without ALL the familiar faces disappearing!

LOL. That's because I ALWAYS post my own threads in the Cafe Area... ;)
Thank you though!

It's the spelling. The spelling is rare here (in wherever it is that I am). It's usually spelled with an 'e'.
I was would mostly worried about somebody local googling something and here I am.
But I agree. It's nice to see old faces (aka usernames).I don't even know Mehitabel but I was very happy when she came back as Mehitabel. :)

I agree with you Karin. It would be good to change user name.
When I joined NR I was quite pleased that I managed to get almost all of my full real name as a user name!! I wasn't really aware that it'sa bad idea to go posting personal details on an open internet forum. Feel a bit daft now. :o
I'd really rather prefer to be a bit more anonymous....
When I googled my name once it came up with a NR post about my weight and was I too heavy to ride a pony - not something I really want to share with the world. :o

Hey Dehydrated Rat! I missed you. If you still put it below your ID, why did you have it changed?

Mike can change it if you really want it changed, but I can't recall anything you've posted that could cause offence.
My user name is what I am called in real life. Not the name on my birth certificate, but since even my mother calls me Chev I'd probably be more anonymous using my real name! It really doesn't worry me to be honest.
A note to remember though... posting in cafe does not guarantee that what you post is neccessarily lost forever after 7 days. Google caches pages it trawls; clicking on chache in a Google search result can yield results that were deleted here years ago.

I just put it there so people would know I'm the same user,I'm going to take it away soon when I think of something else to write there.

Heheh. It's never too terrible to use mine, since no one tends to realize that it's my name.
But it did seem to let people track me down...all those sweet NR folks who sent me flowers when I was in for my back surgery. I can quite see wanting to anonymize your username a little, particularly when the one you're using does look like a genuine first (or last) name.

I'm lucky with "domane" - if you google that you get over two and a quarter million hits!!!! I daresay there's a NR one or two in there but I'M not searching for 'em :D :D :D

Karin,
You dont need to give any reason except that you want to avoid using your real name.
That was why I asked to change because I didnt understand public message boards and gave my real name. Mike changed me.
Think up the new name you want and just PM Mike. It is no big deal.
We all make mistakes, or come to reassess the situation.
You are not the only one as I have had a PM or two in the past from people telling me their new name - so you can tell your regulars that you are still around.
You are such a good person to have posting on NR and no one wants to think you are uneasy about using the board.

G'day! Yes on some other forums that I have joind you can change your username but they only have 1,000 - 3,000 members so not ALL the really good names people want to change to are taken. I like my username and thankfully it wasn't taken, but I don't want to change.
I'm sure you really do want to change though! I have not given my real name on any forums and I have only given my country and state, no more. I think all th people on this board are very friendly, honest and sincere, but remember ANYBODY can view the boards so yeah.
Thank You for this thread.

I thought about changing mine but google already has me good and proper in it's caches so I think it's pointless now. Think of it as your 5 minutes of fame - and a sort of free friends reunited effect :-)
