thanks shariN and w'jit. he is a real sweetie pie

he's got a shiver, and on top of that last november ( a year gone) he got a twisted gut and had to have an op and 2 months box rest.

he was a star throughout it all, and these pics are from his first time out after all that, so it was a very special day :D

What is shivers?

He is luuuurverly

What is shivers?
thanks :)
it's a condition similar to string halt. they aren't really 100% sure what causes it but it's more common in draught type horses.(this horse is 1/4 shire)

they think it's nerve damage and the signal from the brain to the hind legs gets mixed up.

with string halt the horse jerks/snatches its hind legs up, with shivers when they lift the hind leg it shakes.
they have trouble reversing too.

it can be very bad and make the horse is unsafe to ride, but a lot of horses have it and manage fine.

Hi LD, he's my brother and his girlfriends horse, but i have his mum and his brother so its all in the family hehe. i just have to set the record straight as i'm not ever able to look that posh:confused:
his name is Little Lad because he was the last foal we ever bred and was indeed the littlest horse we had on the place until he grew :D .

Lovely pics TB, how did he do in the class? Does his shiver show when he's being ridden? Does it throw up any issues in riding him? Sorry to seem so nosy, but ... OK, I'm just nosy:p (and interested:) )

he finished somewhere in the middle i think CR

his shiver doesn't show up when he's being ridden
it shows up when you ask him to reverse after he's been stood a while, he lifts his hind legs up in an exagerated way.

and sometimes he snatches his leg up after he's been stood a while and he walks off, he then bangs it down with a hefty thump, but only if he's not warmed up.

when he's shod, his hind legs quiver and he holds them up quite high for the farrier
but this is made worse because he worries about it

if we stick a bucket of food in front of him when he's being shod it takes his mind off it and he's not as bad.
:)
