I am pleased to say that my eldest niece has decided to obtain her BHSAI and BHSII.
I am a very proud Aunty :D .

It's been literally years since I did mine (over a decade actually :p ) - but I'm obviously wanting to be as much help as possible, so I'd love any guidance from anyone.

Where did you do your exams/training?
Any pitfalls?
Any advice?

I know how you feel..really pleased when daughter did hers! Trying to persuade her to go on to BHSI

Really depends where she is and how she wants to train. Both myself and my daughter did a lot of 'self training' and study and used various schools for day courses. At AI level there are plenty to choose from, perhaps less so for II. We found that we benefited from having a few different trainers especxially at II level where you cannot train at the centre you sit the exam at.

I only really know about Midlands Centres but if that is any help please pm me

what are the BHSAI and BHSII for?

British riding instructor certificates. In order of seniority

BHSAI = British Horse Society Assistant Instructor

BHSII = British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor

BSHI = British Horse Society Instructor

Good for your niece DeirdreBarlow, I hope she does really well.

Haven't got there yet - but it's one of my dreams to have my AI.

Training so far for stage 1 & 2 (although not taken 2 as not got the confidence) has been done in West Sussex

Took my stage 1 at Rycroft, and if I do take more exams, I'll try and avoid it - just didnt like the feel of the place

you can train at any approved triaing center, although i think you have to take your exam somewhere else, so another approved center. i think u find the places to train on there website.
the only pitfall i can think of is that everything has to be very text book, many people have different ways of caring and riding horses but with the training it great.
and adivce, all i would say is if u haven't had bhs training before get as much as possible even for the lower exams as you have to do it the bhs way!
