Well we won't be around over Christmas to do an end of the month post so I thought I would take the opportunity today as I am on a day off to put a post together.
This weekend ends my 7th week of DIY livery and it has been a raving success.
So far it is has solved my yard woes to the best that they would ever be solved. Apart from the gratuitous good morning and byeee I now don't actually have to speak to our YO. I put my written order for hay, shavings, carrots and feed in the evening and it gets delivered when I am not there.
Bliss.
It is a bit strange heading off to the stables in my nice work skirts and my muck boots on, though.

If I am not at the yard by 1715hrs HG brings him in for the cost of £1 where there are two slices of hay waiting for him. I then feed, groom and change rugs when I get there.
The livery bill at the end of November showed that we had saved just over £100 by going DIY - not bad considering that this is the most expensive time of the year to do it. Roll on the summer and 24/7 turnout.:D
This gives us more money to pay for lessons and his schooling - fingers crossed.
The arrival of rain - like the rest of you - has brought us some lovely muddy horses. I do love to see him covered in mud though as it shows he has been having fun.
He still comes to call (ish) in the field as long as he gets a carrot!
Windy day!

Even more mud - excuse my squeaky voice

The farrier came last week so week got him to take the back shoes off and just trim - no point if he isn't working much - also it is nice for the hooves to be shoe and nail free for a while.
I thought about taking the front ones off too - what do you guys think. YO's said it wasn't a good idea as the foot would spread and then not take the shoe again????!!! I wasn't around to ask the farrier - is that true?
We are still doing a bit of roadwork with him once or twice a week so hopefully he will be fine the way he is.

We met this 'soft landing pad' on the pavement on the way to the park - I'm not sure what he would have thought if it if we were on board but he isn't that bothered here .... oh yes it was being blown around by the wind and was just full of air waiting to be blown in front of a car, I would imagine.

You probably can't see it from this clip but he is really beginning to stride out - so much so that he is over reaching by about a whole hoof and a third.
This may reduce with a rider on his back but I have ordered him overreach boots anyway as a just in case.

I've booked the vet for a visit on the 2nd of January to repeat the bloods etc.
I am fully expecting him to be off for another few months which really won't do him any harm as a youngster providing there is nothing too sinister in this muscle damage picture that is presenting.
