Well we won't be around over Christmas to do an end of the month post so I thought I would take the opportunity today as I am on a day off to put a post together.

This weekend ends my 7th week of DIY livery and it has been a raving success.

So far it is has solved my yard woes to the best that they would ever be solved. Apart from the gratuitous good morning and byeee I now don't actually have to speak to our YO. I put my written order for hay, shavings, carrots and feed in the evening and it gets delivered when I am not there.

Bliss.

It is a bit strange heading off to the stables in my nice work skirts and my muck boots on, though.

If I am not at the yard by 1715hrs HG brings him in for the cost of £1 where there are two slices of hay waiting for him. I then feed, groom and change rugs when I get there.

The livery bill at the end of November showed that we had saved just over £100 by going DIY - not bad considering that this is the most expensive time of the year to do it. Roll on the summer and 24/7 turnout.:D

This gives us more money to pay for lessons and his schooling - fingers crossed.

The arrival of rain - like the rest of you - has brought us some lovely muddy horses. I do love to see him covered in mud though as it shows he has been having fun.

He still comes to call (ish) in the field as long as he gets a carrot!

Windy day!

Even more mud - excuse my squeaky voice

The farrier came last week so week got him to take the back shoes off and just trim - no point if he isn't working much - also it is nice for the hooves to be shoe and nail free for a while.

I thought about taking the front ones off too - what do you guys think. YO's said it wasn't a good idea as the foot would spread and then not take the shoe again????!!! I wasn't around to ask the farrier - is that true?

We are still doing a bit of roadwork with him once or twice a week so hopefully he will be fine the way he is.

We met this 'soft landing pad' on the pavement on the way to the park - I'm not sure what he would have thought if it if we were on board but he isn't that bothered here .... oh yes it was being blown around by the wind and was just full of air waiting to be blown in front of a car, I would imagine.

You probably can't see it from this clip but he is really beginning to stride out - so much so that he is over reaching by about a whole hoof and a third.
This may reduce with a rider on his back but I have ordered him overreach boots anyway as a just in case.

I've booked the vet for a visit on the 2nd of January to repeat the bloods etc.

I am fully expecting him to be off for another few months which really won't do him any harm as a youngster providing there is nothing too sinister in this muscle damage picture that is presenting.

In the meantime, OH and I are continuing with weekly lessons with our new teacher elsewhere. In addition, I have started to take jumping lessons on May - yee hah! It is great fun and what is more, she is absolutely loving it too.

We are off to http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/Whatanejit/Smilies/Holidays/smilie_flagge161.gif on the 23rd for 6 days. Cooper has a few Aunties looking after him during that period and I am sure he will be well looked after.

I will really miss him, though. We are taking our dogs with us so at least we have 2/3 of our animals with us.

It wouldn't be like me not to have a Christmas photo of Coops so here goes.......

wow Dee he looks great, he's really striding out well there!

i want the landing pad-but it needs to be at least 10 times bigger :D

re: the front shoes- i have never heard this, if his feet are kept trimmed (as I know they will be) they won't spread, even if they do get flairs these can be trimmed off and the foot shod as normal

merry christmas:D from the munch bunch
I'm getting into it now, at last!

You're coming to Ireland for Christmas? Make sure you pack your inflatables :p

Its good to read a Cooper update! He looks fantastic in the preview of the last video (I can't watch yet, dial-up speed!) I wish Mocha's winter wooly suit looked as good on her!

Did you fall out with your YO?

Love the Cooper striding out pic! Isn't his bod looking gorg?! It's hard to believe he's not 100% at the mo, cos he certainly looks it.

You have come a looooong way in nearly a year, Dee, ending on a high note for Christmas by JUMPING. See? You're even out of the Nellies Club, too:D

Your doggies will be feeling smug, having you and OH all to themselves over the break.
(Have you got a 'smug pooch' smiley? bet you can sort one out!).

Come next Tuesday, it'll be a year since I signed the cheque for HQ!!!

Cheers TB and the Munch Bunch:D - great name! Mmmm - it was the crazy YO's wife mentioned that about the spreading - say no more.

Thx NN - That skirt was part of my christmas party outfit - I was made up like a drag queen on top but look at the bottom half:eek:

Oh it has been a while since we have had Loki pics Clare - mud or no mud we want to see them!

Thanks Skib. - Cooper is my dream:0)

Thanks Est - fingers crossed it is just a blip too.

Hi Rips. This will be the first christmas that we havn't gone riding in Ireland as we just don't have the time with all the family and friends to visit. We are only going for 6 days instead of 10 this year. That also means, of course that we don't have to pack all the riding gear - including the rubber dinghy wich is in dire need I understand!

Oh, YO's were a nightmare again over the summer - we almost left again but decided that DIY would be a better option and a last resort.

You are right about the dogs LD as we are in and out so much with work, horses etc..... always one to rise to the challenge..........

 re your anniversary of HQ - she really was a chrissy pressie wasn't she!

A year brings a lot - lets hope 2007 is a positive one.:)

Lovely update Dee.:D You are definitely starting a fashion trend.;) And isn't it always the one bit of work clothing showing under the mucky outer stuff which he will gob all over in the most loving way.

Happy Christmas and New Year from Sennie and me Hon.:D
