yee ha...

riding Boris today without stirrups in the lesson and he spooked in the school - what? Normally sedate and calm he saw something ( a shadow perhaps.....), and he bucked (big bucks, 4 times...., lurched sideways and he was off.....)

Very very scared, but reacted positively (I can't believe it)
first thought - Ive got no stirrups
second - is this gallop I'm feeling beneath me (turned out to be the bucking)
third, where is he going to end up, and where am I going to end up
fourth, relax sit up hang on to the saddle, aim for horsey bum down the other end of the school (all friendly horses thank goodness)
fifth - I am NOT going to fall off....

and I didnt, and the instructors and experienced riders all chatting at the other end clapped and cheered.....

phew!

the rest of the lesson was pants tho'....

Well done Anne!

OMG!

You did brilliantly to survive that.http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f270/Whatanejit/Smilies/Surprise/wow.gif

That is what no stirrup work is all about - sort of - helping you sit those sort of events.

I bit your heart was pounding and your legs wobbled after the event, though.

Silly billy Boris!!!

Forget the rest of the lesson - big respect, man, for surviving that!!!

thanks friends, its good to share these little things.

S'funny how lack of stirrups probably helped, cos I just had to do it 'au naturel' (no, not literally...) and just made me keep those damned legs DOWN.

Yes Boris was being a silly billy and was spooky when I took him out of the yard back to his pen. Jumped at a car on the yard, I know he has NEVER seen one of those before...

Everybody was talking about it though, seems like a big "do" for our sedate little place. A combination of frost and sunshine, methinks

Well done AAH! Yee-haa!! Bet your confidence has taken a boost with that fantastic "stick on'!

HQ has had her dramas over the last few days, and I have been feeling a bit down, because she had been so spookless for a few months and I thought we were getting through the over-sensitivity.

But your post has made some connections in my mind...

There must be a lot of Spook about. You know there's 'something in the air' when even the extra-sensible hosses do fandangoes!

One of the very experienced ladies on the yard said her 'old boy' had played up like never before during some dressage the other day, spooking and skittering about ; she was totally astonished!

Wow! Sounds like you did really well staying on board! Never forget first time OH's school horse spooked - it was only bout his 3rd lesson, he sat it out marvellously - remember the teacher yelling, "well sat, well sat"!!! hehehe.
