It just hit me at 2am in the morning last night that I'd be stuck at training level for a looooonng time. (i'm not sure what the equivalent is in Britain. Training Level, we do w/t/c, stretchy circle at trot, and 2 loop serpentines) I've been in Training Level for 3 years now, because each time I get ready to move up, I lose the horse (sold, goes lame, ect) Limerick will hopefully be moving up to 1st Level in summer, but then I start Arion, and hopefully we'll be doing some Intro (walk and trot only) tests with him as a late 3 year old, and then start Training Level. Then I lose Limerick, so I only have Arion to compete until the following year, when Costa is started, and then, guess what? MORE training level.
I'm going to be the absolute champion of Training Level tests before the end of the next two years ;)

Join the club! :D
All I seem to do is start babies. Great... til I realise *I* don't progress this way.
My plan now is to get Dolly's Andalusian x baby to the highest level *I* can ride... :D You just need to think Long Term and hang on to the special one... ;)

That's it exactly. You suddenly realize that you're great with the youngsters but can't do much else!

How come you lose Limerick after this summer? Do you just bring babies on to sell? A friend of mine was always bringing on babies, then she bought herself a baby and decided she was just going to keep him, 8 years later she sold him on because she'd done all she could with him.
She went right back to babies as she found it more rewarding to work with the young horses and watch them move on to greater things.

Limercik actually isn't mine. I just got him because Storm went lame and I needed a horse until Arion was ready, so I got a free lease for 2 years, with the condition that I get 15% of his sale price

Fun hey?
With Splash gone.. I am further back then before (least that's how it feels) Deja is stiff, was never broke properly has a sour working attitude and no IDEA what I am asking for. SOO I find myself not ridding anywhere near as much. I know it will pass but it's hard to go out in the cold to work with a horse on yeilding her head and self carriage - when I would rather be going to buckle penning or barrel racing...ah well time.
Square one SUCKS - but it will be nice because they will be YOUR babies you are bringing on. And having the pair of them - well once your over this prelim hump you will be good to go!

Their asking 15k for him...I could probably get him for 10k, seeing as I'm the one who has put all the training into him. Which is actually qutie reasonable. By the time we're done, he'll be worth closer to 30k, as he could be an excellent dressage horse (trainer thinks he can easily maky 4th level) and jumps like a dream. however, the reason he is worth that much is because *I* trained him...so it'd be like paying them for my hard work ;)
If I could get him in the neighborhood of 5-7k, I'd buy him and later resell him, but the owners think that because of his breed, his price increases (which it actually does, since true Irish Sport Horses are rare in Canada) but still, I wouldn't pay the price they are asking of him right now
Besides-I also have two babies that will be started this year and the next
