Andadura - I feel the need for speed!

Andadura horses are part of Puerto Rican culture and native to the island.
They are closely related to the Paso Fino. They are the hottest thing going on in Puerto Rico with horses ... The are Criollo horses (meaning native horses of Puerto Rico, but not Paso Fino) and they have three different ways of "walking"

Paso Corto - their speed is moderate and cover distances in a not pressure manner. The execution should be of medium extension

Andadura - The horse lifts both legs of one side at the same time, but the movement can be lateral or diagonal

How big do they get? what colours? mind you looking at what is displayed in those pics , looks like any colour.

Mind you we'd never allow fast pace onm the road, just too much for the poor legs.

Slow and medium though, not a problem.

The one in the stalbe aisle, you can hear the "black and decker" noise you need to hear from the feet of the ICelandic

They are bred in Puerto Rico....but we could import ya one.

So the Andadura is much like a standardbreed? Both legs at the same time and they can be either lateral or diagnol depending on the breeding, training and just from horse to horse it varies what type of gait they pefer.

Yes they were great!

Didn't like to see the horse paced down the road, we'd do that on a sand track, but the rest was really interesting.

Are they like Icelandics?, ie they all have different ability , but which can be brought out with training. There must be walk trot horses out there who display no gait ability at all.

They are a close cousin to the Paso Fino breed. However, I think the Icey's are the closest of the gaited breeds to the Paso outside of their more immediate family of Andadura or Trocha. But I have not had the chance to ride an Icey or Andadura to compare yet....someday. :D

And yeah, most ppl don't like to see them ride on the street, but that is common in Puerto Rico. Even here in Miami horse country we ride a lot on the street b/c there is not much room for arenas or trails. Many times the trainers ride World Champion horses around the subdivision as part of their routine.

According to the webmaster of the Andadura website the horses are of PF descent, some of pure PF bloodlines but not papered. The horses are trained like this in the same way as Icelandics are for pace races and the Anadura is basically the same as an Icelandic pace race (except without saddles :eek: ).
