I got to share this as it doesn't happen very often (to me anyway :o )

I went hacking on Ebony and Jessie with my daughter Alex yesterday. We trailered the horses to a village where we have regularly hacked from and set out on a bridle path along our normal route. I've not been there for about 4 months, and the horses were really fizzy after being kept in and Ebony can play a bit of a game on a hack. I rode Jessie and even though only a tiddler, is sooo strong  , let her go in front and she will continually try and pick up her pace, put her behind and she starts dancing around and running into the back of Ebony  - use a short rein and she dances around pulling against it, drop you rein and she is drawing level with Ebony (not good as they wil start to race)

Anyway, we got to a gateway on the bridleway and saw a new sign saying 'caution, gallops' , we went to the house of the yard and I asked the owner if we could use it who said go ahead :D

It was a brand new track on a long slope with rubber crumb and sand surface which was excellent and must have been about 4 furlongs from bottom to top (1/2 mile ish), we rode up it side by side for a little while till it straghtened out at which point they both took off like rockets

We came back down and as Alex had her phone with her decided to get a couple of clips.

This has got to be one of the few pics of me on horseback as I'm always behind the lens, the only downside was that Alex was filming and hanging onto Ebony at the time who decided to dance around at the moment we went past and Jessie took an age to slow down after I put the brakes on as she just wanted to go flat out

Well that looks good if you can continue using it.

I just have an abandoned railway line that I use as a gallop but something like that looks amazing!!!

We will be up that way again tomorrow with the local hunt (I'll just be watching)

It must have cost them a fortune to put in though

Sounds amazing! I would love to find such an area to run my Dutch on. We did something similar on a country road near the end of November and he surely wanted to keep running. He is a thoroughbred and me and my trainer aren't sure if he was raced in his younger years. Somedays we think he was, somedays not. All the we can read of his Jockey Club lip tatoo is the first character which is his year of birth. So that's all we know.

There are actually 4 gallops I know of in the area around my town (as well as one at the Cheltenham racecourse itself), but this was the 1st time we have actually had free access to one of them.

The other one I've taken a look at is a 4 furlong gallop on the side of a really big hill overlooking Cheltenham, and is owned by a racing yard which also has a horse pool - which we have taken my sisters injured TB to for swimming therapy. The swimming is very hard work for them as they must use just about every muscle in their body to stay afloat

Is this the one in a field on the right hand side as you head towards Corse Lawn as you are leaving Tirley as I drive that way every day after dropping Alex off at Hartpury college ?

This one is on Vesteys estate nr XC Foxcote on the Withington road (the name of the farm escapes me :o

if you leave tirley heading towards corse there is a turning to the left midway between tirley and the corse road you go up there and it is on the left before you go up a steep hill:D
the one at foxcote (thorndale) is only about 2 1/2 miles from me:D

My daughter went out on Jessie with the Cotswold Hunt yesterday from the Frogmill, then through Shipton Oliffe towards Salperton. If you look 3/4 of the way down on the videomenu (http://www.stencilbum.co.uk/videomenu.htm) page of the Stencilbum website, there are a few clips of them out on the ride.
