View Full Version : Can anyone help with my swivelling boot?

Bry has been barefoot since the end of August and using her old mac G2's with sucess. In the last few weeks we have developed a slight problem. One of her boots, a front one keeps twisting round. I've tried switching the boots around but it still swivels. Initially I thought it may be that she just needed a trim but she's had this done and the boot is still swiveling. The other front boots moves ever so slightly but not to the extent of this one.
I am in a bind now as the wet weather has made her very footy so I cannot hack out without them but I am finding myself getting off every mile to straighten it out.
Anyone else had this problem, any thoughts, suggestions etc

How much does it swivel? Does it stay where it is once it's moved? Maybe that's where it wants to stay? Unless she walks perfectly straight (which is uncommon) the boot will move to accomidate her foot fall.

It swivels so the buckle is on the side and the 'front' is pointing to the side. She seems to walk ok but it can't be good for her.

hum, that's not good. Brodies used to turn, but only a couple of degrees, since he dishes and doesn't land foot flat.
Have you talked to the EP?

I think this can be something of an issue with G2's because of their superior grip, especially on hard surfaces. Tess has one slightly smaller fore foot at the moment and also plaits slightly on that leg. A good trot on the road or a stony track, or cantering circles on one rein in the school and the boot would end up pointing at 2pm or worse. I seem to have cured it by packing the front with a couple of the boa cap protectors that came with the pastern wraps, but anything similar should do. The inserts you can get don't seem to help as they're intended to make up for lack of width rather than length, so try packing the toe and see if it makes any difference :)

I was having a chat with a lady at the local saddlery this morn and she suggested vetwrapping cotton wool to her foot. Worth a try.

Check to see if the foot is landing level (with boot off)- not one side first, landing on one side or one heel first can cause the boot to swivel as the tread on that side grips first and pulls the boot around.
