Hey again. Just wondering how to ride a half-halt in trot? I understand the hand-seat-leg combination, but when doing rising-trot do you just use the hand aid or do you just sit for a few beats? just wondering thanks.

I kind of slow my rising for one or 2 beats.:)
Dont know if its right, works most the time though.

I give the half halt as I sit when doing rising trot as it's easier to influence with the seat. I find the explanation of a half halt confusing as most people tend to say different things. Recently, one of the horsey mags asked top riders to explain their definition of it and again they all differed in some way!!!
If you want to check the pace in rising trot I would half halt and slow my rising.

To me it seems logical to put your leg on and restrain with your fingers as you sit checking the speed and allowing hindlegs to step further under, then release your fingers and push hips forward for the rise to encourage forward movement again.

Asking top riders to expain how they ride makes me laugh as they always say something different. Is it because talented riders don't actually think about what they are doing as it just comes naturally (feel) ????

hey, that one seemed to work the best as altough Teddy is 16 hes still fairly green. I imagine thatsthe reason, or else they're just so used to riding theydont have 2 think about it lol!
