of you lot who jump around 2ft6 - 3ft. I used to jump that height but since selling my talented first pony for something bigger, than getting something bigger which i lost my confidence with, then going onto a smaller horse with less pop on him i no longer get that luxury. I wish i'd just enjoy jumping smaller and forget about jumping bigger (which i dont have much confidence for anyway).
Someone cheer me up, lol .

Would Merlin be ok doing grids and courses of small jumps? they can be fun. also jumping on the lunge? i know its not the same as riding but i tried it today and really enjoyed it! Would give a good indication of how M would react to larger jumps aswell.

I know exactly how you feel! Because of Red's navicular he can't jump as high as he used to but can still just 2/2ft3, and i'm going to start his fitness programme before he's even on his rich "get fat on fresh air" summer turnout. I'm really looking forward to doing some jumping this Summer.
And then the only other jumping prospect i would have would be my best friend's 22 year old pony which she's semi-retiring and i'd feel horrible asking Natz if i could ride her let alone jump her.
You're always welcome down here in the Summer to pop over some on Red, if you like slow motion jump thrills! :D

Merlin can jump up to about 2ft 3 (clear round/ novice height), so i guess its ok its just...im not quite feeling the fun cos he's not exactly fun in the arena, gets quite bored easily .

I'm quite lucky there, cause Red does like being in the school once he's cantered on both reins he'll cheekily try and canter at each corner after that!
Could you try free-schooling him over jumps and chase him around and make a fool out of both of you!! funfunfun!! :D

now that is a bit of a giggle :D. provided your horse doesnt leg it to the gate and neatly pop over it and attacks the hay on the other side...hopefully shes over that phase now ;)
you and horse will end up knackered though!

everyone gets jealous! but you just have to think there is always going to be someone better than you, even at the highest level. but then u could be better or having more fun in another ara of horses.
also there is people worse off than u, that are jealous of you. just make the most of whatyou have.
if you dont put the pressure on yourself u may find you slwly get your confidence back. dont worry if you are jumping smaller, as long as u are having fun and not scaring yourself more!

Which is where i could have the problem because we have a 'grass' school so red's head would go straight down to the floor lol!

That sounds like a great idea! I love having photographic and videographic (is that a word?) of things that happen, it's like bookmarks of your horsey life :p
If you were nearer I would come down at the weekend and give you a photo shoot!! xx

You want something to cheer you up? I get so jealous of you lot who see your horses everyday, even if you don't jump 3ft (question: how much is it in meters?) I used to jump 1,15m with Touche, but I'm away for studies for a year now and will be for another three at least! I see them at Christmas, Easter and summer and since it's too hot, there are no shows on summer, and when the season begins, I have to come back and study!!!:(

yeah i know what you mean!
i used to be jumping 3ft -3ft6 at my riding school :) (this was 2 years ago)
but since then i have just done hacking really with the odd jumping lesson.
Jumps seem alot bigger now a days
but anyway its not how big you jump its about your 'style' of jumping!
A person jumping small jumps with good rein contact and a good position, is much better than a person jumping huge will no rein contact and a bad position!

I used to jump alot - I even have photos of me jumping big high jumps, but over the years I don't do it. My horse can jump (of sorts). It does not come that naturally to him but he can do it. My daughter jumps him and he likes it. I don't jump.
I think it is because I have realised that I don't bounce anymore either. Aged 45, if I fall and break or bruise then I would be unhappy and things around here would be very difficult. Who would drive everyone around? How would we get our shopping? Many things, many reasons.
So, I don't mind. It is not the end of my world. And when i watch folk that jump, good luck to 'em. Rather them than me!
Don't agonise over it. Life is very short and if you jump, it can for some be even shorter!

Jumping is over-rated in the horseworld in the UK.
It seems most folk judge the ability of the rider on the size of the jump he can get over.....no matter what the style and whether they could get around a course of similar height jumps!

Jenren 1'7" - 2'6" is just as fun ;)
I'm grateful to jump anything, its all in good fun. and you don't have to push yourself when you do get back at it, start little, like maybe 1' which maybe sound small, but when you've been away for some time, and you lost all confidence, those fence's are a ball! :D I know somedays I dont feel like 'raising the bar' no pun intened for those who are like minded. so I stay jumping 1'3' probably, and im in love with it.
Myself I've gone up to 3', but I think my best and favorite height is 2'7" and thats all I really want to do right now. You've still got alot of years ahead of you, so don't feel rushed in jumping. If your anything like me, go watch a reining show, (If you have them over there!) I think if I ever get another horse i'll be more into reining than jumping.
Good luck :D
