i have recently learnt to rise to the trot bareback at my riding school and i have a friend who wants to learn except i dont think i'm being very helpful in my explanation of how i'm doing it and i cant remember how i learnt to do it other than lots of jumping bareback and without stirups and doing lots of two point bareback in canter to strengthen my legs...
has anyone got a good explanation of how to rise when bareback?
:D

By using your hips and the movement of your horse to rise off the horses back, and then relaxing slowly when the horses movement brings you back down to his back.

I'm not really sure but I think you have to get a good impulsion so that the horse pushes you up out of your seat by itself if you get that. It's what I've alway done when we trot w/o stirrups so I guess it's the same bareback. Sorry I'm not much help am I:o :p

Yep that's right :) Believe in yourself! :p
It also helps if you're riding a horse thats more elevated in his movements because it's easier for you to use them to rise, whereas if you have a heavy on the forehand horse, you have to do quite alot of the work yourself.

I would try rising the trot without stirrups in a saddle first...
