I wonder if to combat nerves you can access skills in your life unrelated to riding that you use perhaps in home life or at work?

I am researching the transferring of life skills to riding skills and I have a few ideas you may like to try - no obligations and no fees.

I am a qualified NLP Practitioner and would normally charge for the advice I provide in life coaching and business coaching - however I am wanting to find a way to share the skills I have in order to develop a riding skills and confidence building course. Anyone volunteering now will get to be part of the research and of course be totally free. I can advise about 5 people online initially then over phone or via email if you think it is helping at all.

If you are interested - please post or message me.

Experience of first pony purchase nerves for a child, lack of confidence after a fall and facing a challenge to success - first dressage and show jumping competitions and much more. I do not ride and I am happy to work with your Riding Instructor.

Hi I have been reading about NLP and would be interested in joining your research if you've not got your 5 already. I have just returned to riding at the age of 53 after a 30 yr break and have had my own horse for the first time for 8 weeks. I'm really nervous and would appreciate any help

I'd be interested. I've had CBT sessions for anxiety (not to do with horse riding) in the past and I do still find that I get nervous in the lead up to riding/on horseback and also when jumping which even makes me lean back (as though to back off from the jump) rather than go forward into jumping position.

Ohhh I'd love some help to become a relaxed rider. No idea why but i always get really nervous when I am mounting my horse and sometimes during riding. We have overcome alot of issues but I think my nerves are blocking the rest of our progress. Also with showing and tests I get stupidly nervous which transfers to my horse.

Thats if you haven't already got your five.

Sounds interesting - if you've got your people for the research, would they keep us posted? I'd love to learn about this subject. (I'm quite a nervous older rider - who, unfortunately owns a very nervous spooky horse - so not much hope for the pair of us!!!)

Sounds like a great research project. Would love to know how it goes!!! :D So many riders combat with nerves these days and it often hard to find someone to help you with this barrier :o

Would really like to know how it goes!! you can IM me or mail to FunridesUK (FunridesUK@aol.com) All the Best!!

Regards,
Leonie

I'd be happy to take part if you haven't got your five yet., not too bad on my own bombproof cob, but do have some issues, but I haven't managed to advance to my stage 1 riding as i cannot get over my nerves riding different horses, and if I do I am so nervous they usually bolt off with me

I would be REALLY interested, after having a fall last week after a horse bottled, my nerves are hmmmm delicate !!

If it helps I wouldnt mind paying a small fee, if it works of course ;)

If you don't have five yet, I'd be interested.

I am definitely a nervous rider. Jumping is my huge issue. Even the tinest of jumps makes me nervous. When I finally start to gain my ground with my nerves, the tinest thing will go wrong and my nerves suddenly are just as bad as ever. When I get nervous, I usually just stop breathing. Then I just stop riding well and of course things go even worse because now my mare wonders what is wrong. My mare is a saint and rarely does something really out of line. Even when things go wrong, I often see them coming far in advance, but the problem with my nerves is, although I see the problem and know how to stop it, I just don't do anything about it.
