ok heres the problem, lady needs clipped, she scared silly of the clippers. she was clipped when i bought her so i know it can be done. she was abused as a youngster, (twitch on her ear type of thing resulting in a chunk missing:eek: ) so we want to make it stress free.
trouble is she's also afraid of needles or vets in general. she tries to rear when he goes near her. eyes on stalks etc..
he has suggested we give her a dose of sedalin before he comes out to give her a sedative into the vein. but is this safe? can you mix the two?

I guess if the vet suggested it then it must be???
Sedaline can have a fantastic effect on some horses, you may find with that alone you can carry on and clip her - but if not just call the vet then to get a top up :D

sedaline may well be enough to do the job , although mine does need a full sedative ,
the doesage on the tube is fairly low but a vet told me that you can safely give a full size horse two tubes , i personally use a full tube if needed for clipping , leave the horse stood quitely in his stable with no food for half hour for it to take effect

thanks for the replies. don't think it would be strong enough on its own though. she got sedated for her teeth rasping last month and vet gave her the same amount of sedative he would give a strong colt for gelding, she nearly killed him! so he had to give her another dose, she was almost falling off her feet and still fighting with him.

Our old guy cut his eye lid one time, after 3 shots of sedative and twitching by the vet, we gave up the idea of being able to stitch it.
Gave him sedaline reacently and he was just as sleepy :p
Can't hurt to ask the vet if he thinks thats an option. Our vet said the best thing is to hit them hard first time and give 45 mins-1 hour for it to take effect with minimal stimulation, noise etc.
